Author Journey (August 28, 2023)

2023 08 28 The Otaku Author Journey

Have you ever had a vacation that didn’t feel like a vacation? Well, that’s what I just experienced for the last two weeks. If anything, I felt like I ended up doing more work than normal…

Author Journey (August 28, 2023)

Honestly, I was ready to call it a day on the “vacation” after one week. It doesn’t help that we have the basement waiting for us to deal with when we get back, but regardless, I’ve not had any relaxation time. I haven’t even had any downtime in the evenings. I’m going to need a vacation to get over this vacation, just not more of the same…

The Weekly Recap!

Anime Goal – ? Episodes

I’m well behind on Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead or Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation and I’m looking forward to catching up on those episodes. Otherwise, I’ve not had time to watch anything and it’s quite frustrating. I need some time to unwind as much as anyone.

Manga Goal – ? Volumes

When I say I have had no time I mean it. I haven’t been able to read anything either. No manga, no light novels, and barely even any posts. I’m more tired than I’ve ever been and that’s not what I signed up for.

Posting Goal – 1 Posts

I’m not even sure how I managed to write this post, but I did so that’s a small victory. Although, as you can probably tell I’m not in the cheeriest of moods.

Writing Goal – ?

With no time to do anything, I ended up finding myself lying in bed at night uncomfortable and frustrated. Annoyingly, that’s when inspiration hit. I was tired and couldn’t sleep so I guess my mind was racing. As a result, I’ve outlined a novel. It’s a far more personal one than most of the ones I’m planning and I think it’ll take me some time to write it.

Drawing Goal – ?

I did do some more sketching so it wasn’t a complete bust here either. Nothing of note, but I do think my sketches are starting to look more alike which is nice. Maybe, I’m closing in on my own personal style.

Aspirations for the Week!

So, I’m back from the less-than-relaxing vacation and walking straight into the busy period of the day job. On top of that, I have the basement to deal with and the kids being home for the week. Needless to say, I’m not quite sure how this week will go so rather than setting myself a bunch of goals that I don’t know if I’ll be able to achieve, I’m going to keep things relaxed again. Hopefully, I’ll have a better idea once this week is done.

Watching Anime

I watched two episodes in two weeks which has left me with some withdrawals. Luckily, I have Mushoku Tensei and Zom 100 to catch up on so that’ll be my main focus.

Goal: ? Episodes

Reading Manga

Some of my library books are due back soon, so I either have to read them or take them back and wait to be able to get them again. It’s going to come down to the time available, so I’m going to have to see how it works out.

Goal: ? Books

Posts Scheduled

I have most of my posts scheduled for this week, but there are a couple of empty slots that I have ready for Mushoku Tensei and Zom 100, so at the very least, I need to watch two episodes and then review them. Therefore, I’m going to actually have a goal here which will be three posts.

Goal: 3 Posts

Writing

I’ve had this new idea buzzing around my head for over a week now and while it’s going to be a tough one to write, I would like to get started. That said, I do want to finish RIP Tide. It’s going to take me some time to get back into that, so I’ll focus on reading it through again and then picking up where I left off. Still no concrete goals though.

Artwork Completed

Like most things, I need to keep chipping away at this too. I don’t know how easy that’ll be with the time constraints but I’ll do what I can.

Final Thoughts

So, I’ve gone on about the vacation and how it wasn’t as relaxing as I had hoped. However, it wasn’t all bad. There were some good moments, but I’ve learnt a lot about what I want from my vacations and going forward, I’m going to make sure we do it right. I also think that two weeks was too long. Maybe it was the combination of the vacation and the length of time. I read somewhere that eight days is the perfect length of time for a vacation. I’ll have to experiment with that idea. Anyhow, I’ve got a weird week ahead of me, so I better get on with things. Thanks for reading.

  1. “Have you ever had a vacation that didn’t feel like a vacation? ”

Yeah — just finished one myself. I was busier than when I wasn’t “vacationing.”

    “As a result I’ve outlined a novel.”

That’s a win! An expensive win, but a win!

“Maybe it was the combination of the vacation and the length of time.”

By the end of a week, I feel like I might be ready to _start_ relaxing — if circumstance would allow it. Which it doesn’t. Still, two weeks does seem like a long time. I’d be afraid I’d return to a mess if I took two weeks straight!

I hope your week does not suck!

    • Yeah. Exactly that. I don’t feel like I’ve had any time to just relax. Even when at home and I’m taking care of the kids, meals, and the dog, I still get some alone time.

It’s one of those that I don’t know if anyone will ever read it, but I feel like I need to write it so we’ll see. Might just be the spark to really get me going again.

By the end of the first week, we’d done pretty much all there was to do and that wasn’t that much. Then we had some rain and everyone started to get cabin fever.

It’s going to be an interesting week with the basement issues to work on. I hope it doesn’t suck too!
