Author Journey (February 26, 2024)
After a slow start to the week, it finally happened! I’ve started writing again and even managed to write on three separate days. There’s a long way to go before I’m fully back, but this is a great start!

Favourite Moment!
All right, so Monday was taken up by a public holiday and trying to keep up with the day job. I knew that was going to happen. Then, I lost Tuesday because two weeks of missed life admin suddenly came into play. After that, I started to steady the ship. Not only that, but I started writing. I’ve been trying to get things going again for ages and every time I tried, I would go fizzle out again. This time, I started slowly and managed to write on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I wrote 2,226 words which is below where I would like to be, but this felt like good progress. It’s something to build on, and when I look back at the start of 2017, that was how things started then too. Now, to keep it going!
Writing!
I didn’t hit my goal of five thousand words, but I managed almost half of that over three days, and it’s the first words I’ve written since November when I had a couple of false starts during NaNoWriMo. This felt much better and was the start that this series needed, even if I saw an article talking about bad ways to start a story that included something I had done. I’ve long since learned that these sorts of opinion pieces are not helpful to anyone. I’m back. Now to build on that.
Anime!
There was no Solo Leveling episode last week due to the lead VA getting COVID. Hope he gets better soon, I don’t have the fondest memories of having COVID, so I get why he didn’t want to or couldn’t work. They ended up releasing a recap episode, so I skipped it. That said, I did manage to watch eight episodes and have almost finished one series that I’ve scheduled for the near future.

Manga!
It was a bitter-sweet week in my manga world as I managed to read four volumes. However, I also reached the end of the available My Dress-Up Darling books and it’s left things in a precarious place. I have a few months to wait for the next one to be released, so I’ll start work on another series until then.

Aspirations for the week!
My main goal has got to be keeping my writing going. I’ve always struggled with the weekends as family life takes up so much of my time and by the evening, I usually just want to unwind (plus I watch Frieren on Friday and Solo Leveling on Saturday at the moment). That means I have five days to work on my first draft (well, the latest first draft) and I’m really excited to see how things work out. I wrote the first version in 2017 and I’ve made a lot of improvements to the story since then. It’s like writing a completely new story.
I still have a full week’s worth of posts scheduled and almost all of the following week. That takes a lot of pressure off things which should allow me to write again. The new routine is proving to be quite effective so far. Well, I’ve got some writing to do. Thanks for reading.
It’s good you stick to such story that has begun several years ago. I wish I could’ve done the same but alas, I feel my old story back in 2020 is needed to go since I’ve really got no clue how to really develop properly and end it cohesively. Oddly enough, some writing elements from that year’s story has been going into my current story’s future chapters which is the number of antagonists and their motivations in wanting to kill the (anti)heroine.
Oddly how this current story’s outline just popped up in my mind recently when I should’ve thought of it a few years ago. If you happen to read the first few chapters soon, you’ll see what I mean for I become inspired after watching the animated version of a certain popular series which could’ve have a better, if not more coherent, putting in several of its writing elements from the start. Hopefully this WN of mine won’t be a “copy and paste” in majority of its chapters since I’ve “added” new characters & writing elements that aren’t inspired from said popular series.
Anyhow, I wish you the very best in completing your own story just in time for a NaNoWriMo-like writing contest.
Thanks. This story just won’t get out of my head so I need to finish it before I can move on. When I first started writing it, I wrote more than 300 thousand words and that was the middle of the story so it’s fairly epic. I can see it being quite a bit longer now that I’ve been thinking about for seven years. Plus, those were barebones first drafts. I’m excited to see where it goes.
I find that lots of different ideas end up mashing together to form a greater tale further down the line so taking your old ideas and building on them and integrating them into something new makes a lot of sense to me.
I used to write 50k words a month every month, so I’m hoping to get back to that in the near future. I’m averaging 750 words a day since I restarted so, it’s going well. I just need to build on that.
Congratulations on getting started! It’s easier to build momentum after starting (at least it is for me), so fingers crossed!
Thanks. I’m starting out similarly to how I did the first time, so if I can get going I should be able to get back up to full speed.
