Author Journey (October 2, 2023)

2023 10 02 The Otaku Author Journey

It’s the beginning of quarter four of 2023 which means it’s another new anime season, and as I said last week, I am diving in once more. There are a lot of great shows lined up and I’m already excited by the prospects!

Author Journey (October 2, 2023)

Last week, I announced that I would be changing my schedule to fit the Fall 2023 anime season. My reasoning was that I wanted a little more structure to my posts and having shows that I couldn’t run away with would force me to focus more on my writing. And, it would have worked this week if not for one small detail… well, it was a couple of details that ultimately derailed my week, but it wasn’t all bad. Let’s get into it!

The Weekly Recap!

Anime Goal – 4 Episodes

I managed to start the week by watching the season two part one finale of Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation and it was great. Then, I watched episode nine of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead which may end up being the last episode as the season is now on indefinite hiatus. It’s a real shame because the next three episodes should be amazing. Anyhow, those shows are now done (for now) which left me with the new season to focus on. One show that chose to cover started with four episodes on day one… So, I watched them all and then caught the first episode of another show I’m going to cover. That’s a total of seven.

Manga Goal – 3 Volumes

So, that one series demanded four times as much attention as I was expecting and then there was a load of stuff to do with the basement. All of that left me with zero time to read any manga. It’s only the fourth week this year where that’s happened.

Posting Goal – 9 Post

I wrote up six episode reviews and one season review before I even got around to this one. I was originally planning on writing this post on Monday morning, but it’s a public holiday and I had no idea how that would go so I did it on Sunday night instead. That’s a total of eight posts. So close!

Writing Goal – 1,000 Words

With no time for manga, you’ll probably be able to guess what happened here. That’s right – zero words. I have seen a number of author friends submitting their stories to the J-List competition and that’s got me more determined to get RIP Tide ready. I have until the end of January so there’s plenty of time. I just have to focus.

Drawing Goal – 1 Sketch

My office is slowly coming back together which took up some of my time. Sadly, IKEA furniture doesn’t build itself so that’s what I did instead of drawing. At least, it’s starting to feel like my office again, all be it with walls missing two feet of plasterboard at the bottom…

Aspirations for the Week!

So, I have a new show planned for each day this week. Well, three are older shows that I haven’t reviewed before so they’re all new to the site. You may have already seen this morning’s post about the opening two minutes of Highschool of the Dead. Basically, I’m going to find something to talk about regarding that show for the foreseeable future and that’ll be how I start my week! Tuesday to Friday will be shows from the new season. Of course, this week I have to wrap up Mushoku Tensei, but there will be a replacement next week. This should give me enough to do without taking over everything. I have to be mindful of the present!

Watching Anime

With all the differing start dates of the shows that I’m looking at, I haven’t quite got a clear idea of how many episodes I will need to watch to keep up. So, in the interest of keeping it interesting, I’m going to go with seven.

Goal: 7 Episodes

Reading Manga

I will keep things the same here because I have books and need to read them, especially as one is the manga version of a show I’m covering that I started and would like to finish before the anime goes ahead. Three books.

Goal: 3 Books

Posts Scheduled

If everything goes as planned, that would be ten posts, plus one from last week. I’m going to stick there because this could get out of hand pretty quickly.

Goal: 11 Posts

So, I’m back on RIP Tide and I have a clear deadline for completion. I’ve already written half of it so it’s still well within my reach. I just have to focus. I’m going to do it. I need to enter it into this competition.

Goal: 1,000 words.

Artwork Completed

I’ve still got a little bit of sorting to do with my office, but I’m also already pretty busy and I don’t need anything extra competing with my writing. I’m actually going to have no plan here for now.

Goal: 0 Sketches

Final Thoughts

I think I’ve kept you waiting long enough now to see what shows I will be covering. So, here they are in the order they will be releasing – Freiren: Beyond Journey’s End, Ragna Crimson, The Eminence of Shadow season 2, and Goblin Slayer season 2. I’m expecting to have a great time and then, when you throw in Highschool of the Dead, Overlord, and Beast Tamer, I know it’s going to be a fabulous quarter four. Of course, I’ve got lots of work to get on with and only so much time to work with. Anyhow, I’ve got to get on with it. Thanks for reading.

  1. Sounds like you have an exciting lineup! I’m looking forward to reading all your posts, but the ones about HOTD, Freiren, Eminence, and Overlord most of all.

I’m really curious to see what Cid’s up to this season!

    • Thanks. I’m excited to be covering live shows again. Looking forward to being part of the discussions again and hoping it’ll drive me to do more writing too.

And yeah, Cid is definitely going to be a highlight of the season.
