The Otaku Author Journey September 26 2022

I started work on a new story this week and so far so good. I’ve really missed this side of things so it’s great to see my productivity increasing. At this rate, I may even have something to publish before the end of the year!

Hot Topic

There’s been a massive shift in the atmosphere in my home over the last three weeks. It has coincided with the kids starting their new school and both thoroughly enjoying it. I can’t explain how much of a load off our shoulders it is to see them happy and not doing everything they can so as to not go to school. Since then, life has been clicking back into gear. They’re going to bed on time which gives me more time in the evenings. We get to school on time, which means my day doesn’t get truncated. It’s been amazing. Long may it continue.

That has given me the impetus to do something that I’ve been putting off for a while. I love to draw. It’s been one of my favourite past-times since I was four. Lately, I’ve not had a lot of time to even consider it, but now… I have time and I’m planning on taking part in Inktober which is where you complete an ink drawing every day in October. This also links back to the kids as I recently borrowed a book from the library called Manga for the Beginner Kawaii. I’ve done some sketches with the kids and am fairly confident that I can do a kawaii-style character every day. Of course, I’ll update my progress here as I go, so watch out for that.

What have I been watching/reading?

I’ve been reading a lot more manga lately and decided to do something a little bit crazy. There are a lot of stories that I want to catch up on. I also thought it might be fun to add a little randomness to the process. As such, I reserved volume one of thirty different series from my local library. I figured I would be waiting for a while for any to become available. Well, I currently have three at home and another seventeen are waiting for me to pick them up. I intend to read them all, although I will have to plan my schedule so that I read the ones that I can’t renew first. There’s nothing like a little pressure to spice things up!

Anyhow, here’s a quick look at what I posted last week.

The fight between Zeus and Adam came to its obvious conclusion, although it ended up being fairly entertaining. Next up in Record of Ragnarok is samurai versus Poseidon. This should be good!

Even more Olivier Mira Armstrong in this episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and some interesting moments with Hohenheim.

We finally finished season two of Fire Force. Last week, we published our overall views of the season and thoughts on where it will go from here.

So, Evil-Lyn just upped the stakes in Masters of the Universe: Revelation. I am so down for the Evil-Lyn versus Teela finale. Bring it on.

And don’t forget the ecchi posts that are only available directly on my site.

This was the last episode of Seven Mortal Sins and it was a great way to end the series. This week, I’ll attempt to pull all my thoughts together.

A surprising development occurred in My Wife is the Student Council President!

Last week saw the start of a new set of posts which will be massive. Over the coming weeks, I’m going to revisit the Sankarea: Undying Love anime, review the manga, and bring back my discussion posts with Yomu. It’s a Sankarea takeover!

Work in Progress

Last week, I reported that I had finished the first draft of RIP Tide and I was wondering where I should put my focus. Obviously, RIP Tide will need some editing before it’s ready for the world, but that isn’t writing and I’m focused on rediscovering my writing routine. So, I decided to start a totally new project and come back to RIP Tide a little later. Ironically, the story that called to me the most was not on the list below until now.

I had discussed the idea with Yomu a while back so it’s not completely new, but I had nothing planned prior to last Monday. So, I got to work on some notes and a rough outline. Then, on Tuesday, I started writing and have done so every day since. The working title is Swap Isekai but I think it will have a more suitably long title by the time it’s done. I don’t want to give much away as I think it’s a fairly unique idea in the Isekai world. Right now, I’m just having fun kicking things off.

The Plan

So, the plan evolves a little more. I have a lot of manga reviews to come and I’m not sure exactly where they will slot in. I’m thinking they could start in 2023, but that’s open to change. However, I have got Inktober starting at the end of this week. I will obviously have some more posts coming, but it’s all a bonus to the originally planned schedule.

Since I’ve almost finished my regular scheduled posts for quarter one of 2023, I’ve started working on quarter two. If I get too far ahead, I think I’ll end up rescheduling stuff and increasing the frequency of posts…

I was worried that things would dry up once I finished the first draft of RIP Tide, so this has been an amazing week, especially when you consider I only put together the outline on Monday. It’ll need some work as we go, but the bones are there and I’m excited about how it’s going.

Final Thoughts

One novella done and a novel underway. At the start of the year, I was overly optimistic about what I might achieve and this would have been a disappointment according to that schedule. However, I’m delighted to be where I am and to be building toward the future. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep this pace up, but I don’t feel like slowing down for even a second. I feel productive and that makes me happy. I’m also excited to be in a position to take part in Inktober. It’s going to be interesting to see if I can still do it!

Anyhow, thanks for reading.

  1. I’ve never heard of Inktober before, but it sounds very cool! Please do share your drawings, I love kawaii art! Once again I’m impressed by your organized schedule! In comparison, my schedule looks more like a random series of unfortunate events!

    • Thanks. I’ll definitely share, be a good incentive to keep going.

Thanks again. I have slowly refined this into a well-oiled machine. I find I go a little crazy if I don’t have something to do so this really focuses my energies. I didn’t expect it to get to the point that I was basically six months ahead of schedule, but I’m happy that I am.

I’ve always been very challenge orientated so it plays to my strengths.

What did you think?
