Author Journey (September 4, 2023)

I hadn’t planned on getting much done last week. I was aware of the challenges facing me but, somehow, that was still wildly optimistic! When will things get back to normal? I have no idea!
Author Journey (September 4, 2023)
So, I was back from vacation and excited for a quick return to normality. Haha! I was so naive! We had nothing planned for the kids which meant constant distractions. It was the beginning of the monthly busy period at work so that was fighting for my time. Then, we had the basement to deal with… It’s so incredibly daunting when you stand there and look at all the items that have been damaged by water and/or sewage and try to work through it. We have to document everything for the claim. We’ve been at it all week and barely made a scratch to it. Hopefully, we’ll make some more progress this week.
The Weekly Recap!
Anime Goal – ? Episodes
I’m pleased to say I’m all caught up with Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation, although I haven’t written any posts. I haven’t gotten back to Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead yet, but I am well past the point in the manga and I very much doubt the first season will get to where I am in the story. I did start a new series and breezed through all thirteen episodes. However, this just means I have more posts to write up… Anyhow, I watched sixteen episodes in all which felt nice.
Manga Goal – ? Volumes
Somehow, I managed to read one book, which isn’t nearly as many as I’d like, but even managing one with the week that I’ve had is impressive.
Posting Goal – 3 Posts
One post was planned and one post was written. That sounds like a win to me. Of course, I have a few more posts to catch up on after the vacation and last week. Hopefully, I’ll be back to normal sooner rather than later.
Writing Goal – ?
Back from vacation and all of that spare time that I had has vanished. I managed to watch some anime before bed and then pass out. Again, I need my usual laptop set up with dual screens and a separate keyboard and mouse. iPads and laptop keyboards just aren’t the same, especially with their tiny screens. I need more power!
Drawing Goal – ?
Nothing here. I had my Apple Pencil beside my laptop all week long, but with everything going on I just couldn’t find any time to pick it up. Maybe, this week things will be different…

Aspirations for the Week!
One thing you may have noticed last week was that I ended up posting just manga reviews. Luckily, I have a good number of manga posts scheduled and since I was struggling to get much else done, I rescheduled them to keep things ticking over. I am planning on doing the same this week as I can’t see myself getting to any of my anime reviews in time. It’s a big help as I don’t have to worry about pulling together posts in a hurry. I also have very limited time this week so it makes sense for my sanity too!
Watching Anime
I want to keep up with Mushoku Tensei and Zom 100, but if I do that, I know I’ll be scanning them again when I write up the reviews so that feels like wasted energy. I can quite happily write up a season review after the fact so I’ll just aim to watch another season this week, however, I’m setting no goals at this stage. Things are too busy.
Goal: ? Episodes
Reading Manga
I have two overdue books. One I read last week and the other I’m hoping to get to this week. Then, I can return them and take my time with everything else. I have pushed all my holds back to November so that should take off some of the pressure.
Goal: ? Books
Posts Scheduled
Hopefully, I’ll find some time to catch up on some of the posts I have yet to write, but again, I can’t commit to anything beyond the next Author Journey post. Anything else will be a huge bonus.
Goal: 1 Posts
Writing
My writing has been a big disappointment so far this year. I know I’ve had a lot of fairly big events that have derailed a lot of my work and impacted my time, but I really need to find a way to do more. At some point, I may give myself a week with no goals but writing and see how I do. If I can survive when I am surprised by the universe, then maybe I can survive if it’s self-imposed.
Goal: ?
Artwork Completed
Just keeping my pencil near my laptop should be enough to get me drawing… Well, in a normal week. So, I’m going to keep it there going forward in the hopes that a normal week will return to me soon.
Goal: ?

Final Thoughts
There wasn’t anything particularly unexpected that derailed my week, however, the sheer scale of the problem was far more daunting than I could have ever imagined. Sure, it’s just stuff, but there are memories attached to most things and even then, trying to make a record of every item is insane. That’s why I made no plans this week and I don’t think I will until I’m in a position to realistically tackle them. I hope it’ll be soon, as I really need some sort of relaxation. I need another vacation already! Anyhow, thanks for reading.

Climate change really sucks when it hit you close to home literally. May you’re able to get flood(?) insurance on the items that got damaged by it. And that your house will be dried up asap. Anyway, it’s good to know everyone in your household is safe and sound from the flooding back there.
It really does. When I moved to Ottawa, there was maybe one tornado-like-event a year… maybe. Since July 1st we’ve had five, each with sudden downpours. The last one gave us 70mm in forty-five minutes and the drains just can’t cope. There needs to be some significant improvements to infrastructure as I don’t see these events slowing down.
And thanks, we’re all safe. Just dealing with the stress of the situation.
Dealing with insurance is a pain unique to itself. Sorry you have to deal with it. Like RK, I hope insurance comes through for you!
Also sorry to hear that writing’s taking a beating. Family + Career is tough enough. Adding floods or other natural attacks can derail even the best plans. I hope things settle down for you soon!
Thanks. It’s a pain, but they’ve been pretty good so far. We’ll see how things go when we submit the claim. It’s going to be quite large given that half of our house was contaminated…
Yeah, it’s frustrating. Every time I start to make some moves, something seems to jump up to block me. Hopefully, I can get something done with the remaining third of the year.
Nice and interesting post, thank you for sharing
Thanks
