What did you watch?

This is episode 6 of Dr. Stone. This week we’re expecting to find out the thrilling conclusion to the cliffhanger from episode 4! I say thrilling, but I mean obvious. There is two billion percent chance that Senku will not die. At least not anytime soon. So, let’s find out, shall we? I”ve tried to avoid spoilers up to this point, but I can’t keep it going any longer. Get ready for spoilers…

Dr Stone Episode 6 Wake Up

What happened?

This episode began with a bit of a dual timeline thing going on and I quite liked it. In the present, we see Taiju and Yuzuriha trying to bring back Senku by removing the tiny bit of petrified hair from the back of his neck. While in the past, we see Senku figuring out how to free Taiju, back before he had the working formula. Shock horror! It works and Senku is back from the dead thanks to the amazing healing properties of the petrification.

Now that Senku is back, he quickly gives Yuzuriha and Taiju a top-secret mission. Tsukasa believes that Senku is dead, but he will continue to look for Taiju and Yuzuriha, so they are to find him and join him as Senku’s spies. They had better hurry however, as the other survivor from the smoke pillars has found him and is not too impressed with what he did to the sorcerer (Senku).

What did you think?

For one, I’m glad that the least thrilling cliffhanger had finally been resolved. There was no way Senku was going to die and even trying to make us think that was stupid. It would have had far more weight had he ‘killed’ one of the others, but then that wouldn’t have stopped him from hunting them. It’s starting to look like that idea wasn’t sustainable for the story. That said, I did enjoy this episode, especially when Senku was trying to work out who and why humanity and sparrows had been turned to stone. It was also great to get another character and even better that she is a strong female character.

Dr Stone Episode 6 Kohaku Attacks

What was your favourite moment?

I enjoyed the fight between Kohaku and Tsukasa. It was cool how she just walked towards him with a bunch of flowers and then, once close enough, charged him with two stone daggers. Not only that, she was incredibly skilled in martial arts. I loved how Tsukasa was continually trying to evaluate her, summarizing that if she had been from his timeline he would have known of such a skilled fighter. In the end, it didn’t really matter because she was massively outclassed. Tsukasa is a beast, but that didn’t make it any less enjoyable.

Dr Stone Episode 6 Tsukasa Blocks Kohaku's Attack

What was your least favourite moment?

I’m going to be interested to see how this all plays out now that Taiju and Yuzuriha are going undercover. Given, how perceptive Tsukasa is, I can’t help but wonder if he’ll figure it out almost instantly and turn them into his puppets. Tsukasa has been a great character, but I do feel like it’s limited the direction of the story somewhat and forced the unbelievable fake death of Senku. As I said, I will be keen to see how it all works in the end.

Who was your favourite character?

For the most part, it’s been Tsukasa, so I was quite excited to find another tough character to get behind. Kohaku entered the series as a mysterious shadow a couple of episodes ago and in this one, she finally stepped out into the open and tried to defeat Tsukasa for what he did to Yuzuriha and Senku. She has incredible fighting skills and is clearly very flexible. Not only that, but she appears to be wearing strappy heels! We definitely need more Kohaku in our lives.

Dr Stone Episode 6 Kohaku Finds Tsukasa

Who was your least favourite character?

So, we might have got another character, but that still only brings us to five. Tsukasa is Tsukasa and Senku is pretty awesome when he’s putting his mind to solving problems. I’ve already spoken about Kohaku so that only leaves Taiju and Yuzuriha. Neither did that much except to go on Senku’s crazy mission. They’re both fools for thinking they can pull it off and would be better off if they ran off on their own.

Would you like some more?

More Kohaku? Yes, please. I still enjoy the style of this series and am a complete sucker for post-apocalyptic stories so this is an easy one to stick with. As long as it sticks to its strengths and doesn’t leave us hanging for multiple episodes at a time, I won’t have too much to complain about. I think it’s time to start rebuilding, although I’m guessing Senku is going to have a bit of a headstart.
