Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Episode 51) – The Immortal Legion
What happened?
Edward arrives at the sinister-looking doors beneath the Third Laboratory, however, he’s having some trouble opening them up. Just when Scar is about to lend a hand, the doors begin to open. Before they can enter, the army of mannequins emerges and attacks. Edward realises that they are artificial beings that were created using human souls. They are forced to seal themselves in rather than let them run wild outside.
Mei Change has come across a number of mannequins too and is struggling to get away from them. One grabs Envy’s jar and eats him. Unfortunately, that’s just what Envy needs. He takes control of the mannequin and then devours the others, leaving him alone with Mei Chang.
Olivier Armstrong attempts to force a general to surrender before her troops massacre everyone. However, Sloth has been sent to deal with her and he’s not too worried about collateral damage. Olivier does her best to fight back, but she can’t even scratch him. Luckily, her brother, Alex Louis Armstrong arrives just in time. Maybe, he’ll have better luck!
Heinkel realises too late that Pride has been sending a message for help using Alphonse’s head. Kimblee arrives and blows a hole in the prison holding Alphonse and Pride within. Alphonse attempts to save Heinkel, but he has to destroy his own legs to do so. If they’re going to get past Pride and Kimblee, they will need something special. Luckily, Heinkel still has the philosopher’s stone he recovered from Kimblee!
What did you think?
This was an epic episode as it showed everything starting to go wrong. The immortal legion were fantastic and I’m almost a little disappointed that they won’t go on to cause some real chaos. There’s still time for them to get outside though. Talking about getting outside, I’m glad someone finally worked out what Pride was doing. I don’t understand why Alphonse would have let him do that to his head anyhow!
I’m a little disappointed that Olivier needed to be saved from Sloth, although if it was going to be anyone, Alex Louis Armstrong is definitely the man for the job. Hopefully, this will give Olivier the chance to fight someone more suited to her style such as King Bradley or Greed. I can see this series just getting better and better as we enter the final act.
What have you learnt?
I can’t wait to see what Alphonse can do with a philosopher’s stone. It’ll be interesting to see how that changes things if anything. Pride is basically two philosopher’s stones after devouring Gluttony and Kimblee has a more advanced one. Maybe, Alphonse will have the edge since he’s seen the truth and can transmute stuff without a circle.
I get the feeling we’re in for a bumpy ride for the remainder of the series. There are likely to be a lot of ups and downs as the heroes step up a level only to find the villains have upped their game too. That’s likely to repeat until the end when someone finally wins all. Who will emerge victorious?
