Gleipnir (Volume 14) – I Leave the Rest to You!

It looked like they had almost defeated Honoka when Ikeuchi appeared and turned everything upside down. He had one hundred coins and he wanted Shuichi and Clair to suffer, and with them the world!
Gleipnir (Volume 14) – I Leave the Rest to You!
What happened?
After Honoka unlocked the source of Ikeuchi’s pain, he used his coins to become stronger than before. In the process, he absorbed Honoka into his body. No doubt, she was drawn to the emptiness inside him. In his new form, he resumed the destruction of the Earth but he added his own touch to it, covering the sky with video replays of all the crimes that Shuichi and Clair had committed. He recreated their opponents and sent them to be mercilessly cut down once more. Each time, the horrifying display was broadcast around the world for all to see. His new strength was immense and once he had gotten them into a position of submission, he asked them to beg him to end it all. That was when Elena stepped in.
Elena told Ikeuchi that she felt sorry for him because he was weak and didn’t trust anyone. She told him that he would lose to Shuichi and Clair. That was something he didn’t want to hear. He killed Elena and watched as her body tumbled towards Clair. They touched hands, allowing Elena to pass on her powers to Clair. Ikeuchi attacked again, destroying both of Shuichi and Clair’s arms. He cut them across their chest, dropping them to their knees. Then, Elena appeared before Clair, lifting her up and telling her to keep fighting. She had to be there for Shuichi. She couldn’t let this be the end.
Clair attacked with renewed vigour. She used Elena’s attack to erase some of Honoka’s darkness. Ikeuchi was furious. Why did this always happen to him? Why was he always losing? Clair told him that everyone goes through that. The only difference is that they don’t give up on every obstacle. They leapt into the air, aided by feathered wings and then landed a massive attack, cutting Ikeuchi in two. The world saw it happen. It was like an angel had come down from Heaven and saved the world. However, Honoka’s form was free once more. Shuichi stepped forward. This time, he would do it properly. He absorbed Honoka and then vanished. Clair turned to the alien and Subaru, the only other survivors, and smiled. It was over. The world was safe. Shuichi saved the world.

What did you think?
All right. This was another fantastic ending and even better than the one we experienced back in volume eleven. I did feel like Ikeuchi becoming the main villain was a strange choice, but then he embodied the problem they were facing with these new powers. It wasn’t enough to be strong physically, they needed the mentality to cope with the change too. Ikeuchi was simply an example of the worst of humanity. That’s what they were fighting. Well, I did say that Elena would sacrifice herself in the last post and that was because I couldn’t see there being a happily ever after between Shuichi and Clair if she was still around.
For a moment there, it looked like we weren’t going to get one anyway. Then, Subaru ran into Clair and gave her an address to go to. When she arrived there, she told the shop owner that she dropped her phone near the edge of the damn and wanted him to help them get it. Of course, she knew it was Shuichi in a different form. He knew she was going to kick him over the edge, but he helped her anyhow. And kick him she did! I loved that they finally got to be together after all this time. I also liked that the world recognised what Clair and Shuichi did. People would stop and bow to them in the street. They really saved the world. This really was an excellent ending to a thoroughly enjoyable series.
