Shuichi and Clair meet with Sanbe to head to the crash site in the hopes of finding one hundred coins or the person who may have already done so. Not long into their trek, they encounter two people, apparently waiting for them!
Gleipnir (Volume 6) – So That’s Why I Killed Her!
What happened?
Elena and Shuichi had been part of a study group. They spent the summer goofing off and becoming close friends. When the group met up over a year later, Kaito was surprised to see that Honoka was missing. Apparently, her father had been arrested for murder and not long after she vanished. However, Naoto had mentioned that Aiko, his girlfriend seemed like a different person, although he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. Kaito noticed Aiko twiddling with her hair in the exact same manner that Honoka used to. Something seemed up to him, so he followed her. He didn’t find her, but he did encounter the alien.
The alien revealed to them that Honoka had used her wish to transform into Aiko. Nobody knew why, but Kaito assumed that she killed Aiko because she had everything Honoka wanted. One day, Kaito followed Aiko to the clubhouse of the study group. He saw an unmarked grave and made Aiko confirm who was in it. Before she could explain, he strangled her. Later, he discovered that Aiko had committed suicide and Honoka took on her form so that no one would realise. He killed her for nothing. Fueled by grief, he visited the alien and made a wish.
Back in the present, Shuichi, Clair, and Sanbe trekked through the mountains until Shuichi told them to stop. He could sense two people in the clearing ahead. Both were strong. Sanbe wanted to fight, but Clair insisted that they at least negotiate first. However, it soon became clear that they would not negotiate. They had been given the role of stopping anyone who tried to get to the crash site by the person who already had one hundred coins. Sanbe squared up against the man while Shuichi and Clair took on the girl. Both were incredibly strong, but would that be enough?

Since the anime had followed the books so faithfully for the first five volumes, it never occurred to me that there would be any shuffling of the story. Well, this was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting to see the shocking conclusion of how Kaito lost his way and killed Honoka who was now Aiko. That was as harsh and cruel as the anime portrayed it. However, the anime then must have jumped forward a bit or did something completely different in an attempt to conclude the season, because after the flashback, we jumped to the point where the anime ended where Shuichi, Clair, and Sanbe were exploring. That means there are likely to be some more incredibly heartfelt moments that the anime touched on in its final few episodes.
So, everything after the flashback was new and I loved it. Seeing Clair and Shuichi fight against the girl with the ability to turn her limb into a giant snake was awesome, especially how nonchalantly Clair and Shuichi defeated her. That was brutal and brilliant. I love how Clair noticed that Shuichi had loosened up. That made perfect sense after the way he ended the last volume. Of course, the fight between Sanbe and the other giant of a man was excellent too and the way Sanbe won was equally as brutal. They are shaping up to be a formidable team. I feel like every volume will give me something new now and that’s incredibly exciting.
