How Not to Summon a Demon Lord (Episode 8) – Hero’s Charge

How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Title

Having rescued Shera, Diablo must now face off against the Hydra, an unbeatable summons which can use all four elements! If that’s not enough, there’s even more danger lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike!

What did you watch?

If you cast your minds back to episode 7 which we saw a whole lot of Shera, well, in episode 8 of How Not to Summon a Demon Lord it’s all about Diablo. Well, Diablo and whoever is silly enough to start a fight with him. It’s also the final episode in the Shera arc before we move onto Rem’s story. Expect action, action, and a drunk Diablo! As always, you will find spoilers beyond this point.

What happened?

Keera, annoyed at Shera rejecting him, summoned the Hydra and set its destructive power loose on the world. Of course, Diablo is standing between it and the world. The battle began with Diablo testing the creature’s limits before ditching his scythe and using his staff. Keera bragged that no one would ever defeat the Hydra, so Diablo raced beneath it and blasted it to pieces. He was about to finish off Keera when Shera begged him not to. So, Diablo let him live, but it was a short life!

Galford emerged from the shadows with an army of knights. It turned out he was prepared to allow the elves to start the war as an excuse to wipe them all out. He imprisoned Diablo in a magic casing and attempted to take custody of Shera, but Diablo wasn’t about to let that happen. He broke free and began a fight with the strongest person he’s met yet.

What did you think?

The last episode was full of Shera, which was nice. This episode, however, gave us a ton of action. We’ve not had a good overpowered fight in a little while so it was nice to get two in one episode. The hydra was excellent, I loved how its mouths opened so wide. It really made it look like a crazy monster. Far better than some CGI hydras I’ve seen recently…

What was your favourite moment?

Just look at those mouths! I really enjoyed all of the fights, although the one with the hydra felt a little short, especially how Keera was bragging that it could destroy the world. The battle with Galford was a lot more enjoyable, but then it really did push Diablo, which was a rarity. Even as he won, Diablo was blagging and hoping that he’d done enough to force Galford to back down. Luckily, it worked, but then I would have liked to see it go on a little longer.

What was your least favourite moment?

It’s hard to pick a moment in this episode because there were only really three main parts. The fight with the hydra, the fight with Galford, and Diablo getting drunk and using Sylvie as a body pillow. All were a lot of fun and as much as I want to get mad at Shera for asking Diablo not to kill her crazy brother, Keera, I can see why she would do that. At least, Galford took care of that for us.

Who was your favourite character?

Easily Diablo this time. We finally got to see him pushed and forced to use all of his tricks to beat Galford. It made for a very interesting fight, especially as both have such different fighting styles. As much as I do love Shera and Rem, Diablo is the real star of the show and his fake confidence makes it him that much more enjoyable. It really gives him an edge as a character, because he’s fine fighting giant monsters, but put him in a close-quarters social situation and he starts to fall to pieces… well, on the inside at least.

Who was your least favourite character?

Poor Keera! His unbeatable hydra was defeated and his plans to take Shera were destroyed. Then even as Shera and Diablo showed him mercy, he still lost his head. Can’t say I shed any tears over that one, but I will kind of miss his crazy lip-licking villainy.

Would you like some more?

This episode gave us a load of action and nicely finished off the Shera arc. If I’m honest, I’d choose Shera over Rem in a heartbeat, but Rem does have a better story, so it’s great that we’re heading into that. And, even if we didn’t have a complicated story to go to, I’d be pretty happy just watching these three characters go on missions and get up to all sorts of crazy shenanigans.
