Hundred (Episode 12) – Friends

What happened?

While everything seemed to be going wrong at once, the Slayers of Little Garden appeared to be handling themselves and given a little time they would easily restore the peace. However, Vitaly wasn’t about to let that happen. She found herself confronting Judal in Liza’s room deep within the ship. He tried to sweet-talk her, but she simply upped the game by activating a device that jammed the virus that gave the Slayers their power. Then, Vitaly pulled a gun and attempted to shoot Liza. However, her shots were easily stopped by Liza who had awoken thanks to Sakura’s singing. Judal returned fire, killing Vitaly.

Liza who was now awake moved through the ship in an astral form. She headed straight to the concert and told Sakura that she had the power to overcome things. Her voice was the answer. Then, Liza fixed Karen’s legs. The two began to sing and the Slayers regained their power, fighting back against the last of the mechanical Savages. Hayato gave everything he had to destroy the giant one on the shield and was successful. Or at least so he thought!

What did you think?

As far as endings go it wasn’t a bad one. It wrapped most things up quite neatly and didn’t require anything too ridiculous to save the day. Of course, it wouldn’t be anime if the power of friendship didn’t have something to do with things. So, the giant mechanical Savage was able to restart and go on the rampage. The three renegade Slayers were there to fight back, however, when Krovanh was in danger, Nesat used her power to replicate the mechanical Savage and fight back.

However, that used too much energy and she was about to explode. Enter, Hayato, his energy renewed by Liza, who managed to get through to her before the catastrophic conclusion. Sure, it was kind of cheesy, but it wasn’t exactly bad so I’ll overlook it. There was a nice scene at the end where Emilia was outed as a princess and a girl, much to the annoyance of Claire. There are some things that I want to explore more with the series and just as I did last time, I’m eagerly waiting another season… It could happen!

Hundred Episode 12 Claire Harvey

What have you learnt?

One of the things that I’ve noticed is that I don’t think any of the main characters have really gone on anything that could be considered a journey. They are pretty much exactly as they were in the first episode. Hayato was always chivalrous, doing what he believed was right. Emilia had always loved Hayato. Sure, Claire developed feelings for Hayato but they were never truly explored and she was still the angry hard ass that we met in episode one.

The only characters that really grew and changed were the three renegade Slayers and that was done fairly cheaply. Personally, I would have liked to see more conflict between the characters that would force them to grow and change. This all ties back to my comments on the last episode where there didn’t appear to be any stakes, or at least, nothing that could drive change or force the characters to confront their demons. That said, it was a fun series and I’m glad I watched it again. I’m sure it won’t be the last time either.
