Hundred (Episode 5) – Imitation Girl
What happened?
After finishing his duties as Sakura’s bodyguard, Hayato reported to Claire’s manor to receive more information about the state of things. It turns out that someone stole a special orb from Sakura’s concert venue and it could be related to the Savages. It’s also apparent that Hayato felt a little uncomfortable receiving his briefing while Erica rubbing tanning oil on Claire’s back. She noticed this and tried to make a big thing about it, but her top hadn’t been fastened and things didn’t go quite as she had planned…
With that awkward situation behind him, Hayato took Emilia on a date on the island. She even wore a dress. After a bit of shopping, Hayato bought her a pendant before having to hide from some of their classmates. Soon after, he received a call from Claire to tell him that Sakura had gone missing, although they don’t think it was a kidnapping. He was to keep an eye out for her. However, she showed up moments later and took him away, forcing him to abandon Emilia in the middle of their date.

What did you think?
Once more, I really enjoyed this episode. The scene at the beginning with Hayato at Claire’s manor was hilarious. It’s what I would call classic ecchi. You had the awkward situation that the upstanding hero finds himself in that just got worse and worse. First, Claire’s top came off as she tried to make a point and told him to look at her. Then, Libby arrived and thought that Hayato was to blame. She went to hit him, slipped and ended up sitting on him. As if that wasn’t all crazy enough, Claire intended to challenge him to a swimming race and had even provided a swimsuit so that he couldn’t back out… This is some outstanding awkward cringe-worthy comedy.
The episode was great at that point, but it managed to shake things up a bit. I loved the date between Hayato and Emilia. They really are a cute couple and it feels like there’s a genuine connection between them. Of course, Sakura showing up is going to cost Hayato, but I’m sure Emilia will forgive him. Finally, we learnt a little more about Sakura and how she met Hayato and Karen when they were children. Plus she’s a Variant too but from a sinister laboratory!

What have you learnt?
We knew before this episode that the Savages came from space and attacked, forcing humanity to create the Slayers and the enormous battleship Little Garden. However, everything seemed quite idyllic. So, it was interesting to see the refugee shelter and some of the effects of the attacks. We found out that Sakura had a mysterious illness similar to Karen which was a nice touch as it created a parallel path that could have befallen her had she not had Hayato with her.
I had completely forgotten about the child experiments that Sakura was subjected too and it’s hard to argue with her logic that she and Hayato were meant for one another. It’s nice when there is some sort of logic to the harem’s structure, even if I don’t see how anyone can compete with Emilia… even if Claire is the best girl… Anyhow, I did remember enjoying the characters and that is definitely one of the strengths of the series.
