Infinite Dendrogram (Episode 1) – The Beginning of Possibility

Infinite Dendrogram Title

Ray Starling has finally got his hands on all of the gear he needs to be able to join his brother, Shu in the VRMMO, Infinite Dendrogram. As he makes his way to the meeting point, a quest literally runs into Ray.

What happened?

Inside the game, Ray met Cheshire one of the AIs designed to greet the players and walk them through the setup. Having got himself ready, Cheshire drops Ray into the country of his choice, literally. Ray makes his way to the meeting point he’d agreed with his brother beforehand only to bit hit by an NPC on the way. He broke both his arms but was quickly healed by Liliana, the NPC. She asked him if he’d seen her little sister and gave him a piece of paper with her details to contact her if he sees her. As soon as Liliana ran off, a quest activated – find Liliana’s sister. Once Ray found his brother, they hurried off to complete the quest.

What was your favourite element?

Firstly, let me just say that I loved this episode and am very excited for the rest of the season. With that out of the way, my favourite thing about this episode, and a lot of shows like this, is the sheer joy of watching the characters discover the new online world. Seriously, when they finally develop a game like this I am going to be in so much trouble. I’ll just play for another hour… After all that, the thing that really caught my eye was how it turned out that Shu had gone out early and bought all of the fruit Liliana’s sister was trying to find. I get the feeling that there will be a lot of causality effects in the game. It is infinite possibilities after all. Also, Shu’s gun was epic!

What have you learnt?

It’s hard to come up with something for this one. As the first episode for a virtual reality game anime, it was fairly standard and that’s to be expected. We get introduced to the player and the world. There will be some setting up of the player’s avatar and probably a quest. It’s all fairly standard. The little variations and the characters are generally the big differences. It’s definitely important to give the main character some development, even if it’s just to set up how they will react to the game. Having Ray being so concerned for the NPCs was nice and it tells you a lot about him. It also probably had something to do with his embryo evolving into Nemesis.

    • Thanks, I was a little worried after some of the comments I saw online, but I thoroughly enjoyed it even before the mini gun and Nemesis turning into a massive sword. I’m glad I could share the joy.
