Jujutsu Kaisen (Episode 23) – The Origin of Blind Obedience – 2 –

What happened?

The original curse appears to be a series of bizarre heads that pop out of the ground. Nobara and Fushiguru have found themselves playing a real-life version of whack-a-mole! Itadori, however, is busy fighting the other cursed spirit that randomly showed up. It’s trying its best, but Itadori is too strong and that’s just not fair.

However, Nobara is pulled outside the domain by someone unseen. Then the strange cursed spirit leaps through the hole too. Itadori stops to ask Fushiguru what to do. He tells him to go after Nobara and that he can handle what’s left in here.

Fushiguru slashes all the remaining heads and starts to feel like it was all too easy. It suddenly dawns on him why the murders recently started and he manages to tie it all back to the moment Itadori swallowed the first of Sukuna’s fingers. Could there be another finger here?

Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 23 Fushiguru and Special Grade Curse

It would appear so. A special grade curse falls from the ceiling. It looks similar to the one that appears at the juvenile detention centre but appears to be much stronger. Fushiguru tries to fight, he tries to run, but it’s all futile!

The special grade curse knocks Fushiguru out. While he’s unconscious, he recalls the extra training he’s been doing with Gojou. However, Gojou informs him that he’s been holding back and will never get to his standard until he can let loose. Fushiguru wakes and decides to risk it all. He creates an innate domain and attacks.

The special grade curse is defeated, leaving Fushiguru clutching Sukuna’s finger as the domain collapses. Meanwhile, Nobara and Itadori have come face to face with a rather bizarre cursed spirit who doesn’t like anyone seeing his back. Things are about to get serious… seriously weird!

What did you think?

I raised the question in the last episode that I thought it could be another of Sukuna’s fingers, but I hoped that it wasn’t. Well, it was and it wasn’t the worst thing in the world, all be it a little predictable. What it did do though was push Fushiguru to unleash his trump card. This then brings me to another point and whether Gojou really is the good guy he claims to be.

There’s just something very off about him that makes me feel like he’s a lot darker than he what’s people to think. I think the goofing around and crazy antics are part of his plan to throw people off. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but it certainly warrants keeping an eye on. It was a good episode and that brings us to the season finale. Exciting times!

What have you learnt?

There’s definitely a fine line between sanity and insanity and I think most Jujutsu sorcerers step back and forth from time to time. It makes sense, there’s no way one could do what they do and not be affected by it. So, I was glad to see Fushiguru push himself into the darker spectrum. It adds some more realism to the series.

Of course, sometimes people can’t come back from the dark side. The more and more you push past it the easier it is to keep going. Last time you might have just done something a little bit evil and that becomes the norm so next time you go a little further. I think this could be the beginning of Fushiguru’s descent into madness. The little glimpse of Sukuna enjoying what he saw gives that idea some credence.
