Mieruko-chan (Episode 6) – She Sees Real Crazy Ones
What happened?
Miko and Hana were shopping for cakes and nothing was taking Miko’s fancy. It had nothing to do with the tiny old men ghosts crawling around the display either… Hana wanted to take her for some butt buns, but then Miko spotted a crazy scary ghost. She froze and managed to convince Hana to go somewhere else. Hopefully, that would be the last she saw of that monster!
The next morning, Miko woke up in a panic, her dreams haunted by the sight of that grotesque ghost. Hana, however, woke up feeling refreshed and happy. She had a stack of pancakes for breakfast covered in maple syrup. With her energy refuelled, she left to meet up with Miko. Unfortunately, the crazy scary ghost had followed her home and was still at her side. It picked up a tiny old man ghost and cooked it in her spiritual energy. It drained Hana for a moment, but she had a snack on hand.
On the way to meet Miko, she found a boy crying outside an old haunted building. His dog had gone in there and gotten lost. Hana decided to go inside and find the dog, accompanied by the crazy scary ghost who was still cooking tiny old men on her body. Hana found the dog and returned it to the boy. She was fine if a little shaken. If only she could have seen what we saw!
Miko was horrified to see the crazy scary ghost following Hana and took her to a shrine instead of the movies. It was said to be full of spiritual energy, but it seemed empty and uncared for. They made an offering and said a prayer – Miko hoping for a solution to the crazy scary ghost. Amazingly, that showed up in the form of cat spirits. They attacked but weren’t enough. Then, a larger spirit appeared and gobbled it up. Hana thought this was the perfect moment to take a picture… When the battle was over, the larger spirit approached Miko and then vanished.
What did you think?
This was insane in the best possible way. I loved that it showed us Hana’s day and how she was continuously surrounded by ghosts thanks to her abundance of spiritual energy which was why she was able to eat so much and not put on weight. The fact that the ghosts were using it to cook each other with it was particularly disturbing. It does make me wonder how the grabby ghost was able to hold onto Hana in the earlier episode though.
Of course, the battle at the shrine was the standout moment and not just because of the insane fight. I loved that Hana was oblivious to it and wanted a picture in front of the Torii Gate as the sun set behind them. Miko will forever see the epic battle between a ghost monster and a shrine god in the background. I wonder if Miko will ever get to see the spiritual energy that Hana has and whether they will be able to use that to vanquish the bad ghosts. I’m only halfway in and I’m loving this series so far.
