My Top Ten Anime Girls (2020 Edition)

The Otaku Author Top Ten Anime Girls 2020

Everyone loves anime girls, right? Of course they do. Well, these are my top ten anime girls from the 2020 anime seasons. Admittedly, this list was much harder to put together than the guys… read into that what you will!

My Top Ten Anime Girls from 2020

In 2020, I watched a total of twenty-three new shows from the 2020 anime seasons. It’s less than I would normally try to get through, but I’m sure I don’t need to tell you what a mess 2020 was. Anyhow, these are my favourite female anime characters. Anime can sometimes get a bad rap for female characters, but I think you’ll find it actually offers a tremendous variety of characters, which will hopefully be reflected in this list.

10. Konami Kasahara (Iwakakeru!: Sport Climbing Girls)

Iwakakeru Sport Climbing Girls Episode 12 Konomi

I really enjoyed hanging with Konomi. She was a hardcore gamer, even taking part and winning competitions, but when she started high school, she needed to find a new challenge. That said, she couldn’t get away from the things that she had enjoyed and stumbled upon sport climbing, which was perfectly suited to her existing skills. Now, she just needs to learn some new skills and train her body.

9. Yuri Jahad (Tower of God)

Tower of God Episode 12 Yuri Jahad

Unfortunately, Yuri wasn’t in season one of Tower of God nearly enough. We met her in the first episode and I instantly took a shine to her harsh nature. Despite this, she helped Bam and set him up to move up the tower. When we finally got to see her again, she was an absolute force of nature, easily destroying everything in her way. This is a character that absolutely needs more screen time and it’s enough for me to commit to watching any further seasons that get made.

8. Shuka Karino (Darwin’s Game)

Darwin's Game Episode 3 Shuka Enjoying Herself

The Undefeated Queen, Shuka Karino is absolutely terrifying so it was a great development that Kaname was able to beat her and make her his first ally. She made a huge impact on Kaname and will stand by him through thick and thin. Her best moment was when she nonchalantly took care of Wang. He thought that he had won, but she was just toying with him. That smile means nothing, she will kill without hesitation.

7. Shiko Murasame (Super HxEros)

Dokyuu Hentai HxEros Murasame Shiko

Super HxEros was a riot and there were so many great girls, each with their own powers, abilities, and personalities. Shiko was the one that I found the most enjoyable. Not only did she have a crazy dual with Retto which pushed him to new levels, but she had a cute side too. We got to see that when she met up with Retto later and asked if he was dating anyone before she asked him out. It was a small moment, but it showed that she had respect for him and herself. Not what you might expect from a series about heroes that use a power that is derived from erotic moments!

6. Natsume (Deca-Dence)

Decadence Episode 11 Natsume

It says something to me that Natsume and Kaburagi both made it onto their respective top ten lists, but the series failed to make it. I enjoyed the characters and the world-building, but the delivery of the story really didn’t sit well with me. Regardless, Natsume is a fascinating character. She never gives us and always remains positive. It’s her drive and commitment that changed Kaburagi’s life and ultimately the lives of everyone in Deca-Dence.

5. Sally/Risa Shiramine (BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense)

BOFURI Episode 5 Sally goes on a Player-killing Spree

Sally wasn’t able to join NewWorld Online with her best friend Kaede and the results were surprising. As an experienced gamer, Sally would have probably changed Kaede’s development. However, once she learnt what Kaede had done, she rolled with it and built herself a broke character too. Throwing all her stats into agility, she is now the perfect partner to Maple’s tank build. Don’t be fooled though, even playing solo, Sally is a frightening opponent.

4. Hana Uzaki (Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!)

Uzaki Chan Wants to Hang Out Uzaki and Sakurai Fireworks

I’m certain Hana Uzaki will rub people the wrong way, however, she is the friend that everyone needs, whether they know it or not. Uzaki is kind and caring, but she’s also funny, passionate, and a little judgemental. She shows us that we are not just one thing. Her approach to life makes her quite abrasive, but she always has a lot of fun. Honestly, I would hang out with Uzaki without a second thought. You know it’s going to be a laugh.

3. Maple/Kaede Honjō (BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense)

BOFURI Episode 10 Maple comes to save Sally

I really didn’t think Maple would slide this far down the list, but then that’s the quality of characters we’re dealing with. That said, Maple is a legend and I am delighted that we are getting a second season. It was the series I was waiting for every week and a large part of that was down to Maple and seeing what she would get up to. As a novice gamer, she did her things her own way and it was obvious that none of the developers expected anyone to approach the game this way. By the end of the season, they even seemed to be enjoying the craziness that followed her.

2. Pecorine (Princess Connect! Re:Dive)

Princess Connect ReDive Episode 9 Pecorine at the beach

If you had told me I would become obsessed with an anime about a fantasy guild that was determined to try different types of food and cooking, I would have thought you were crazy. However, here we are. For me, Pecorine was the star of Princess Connect and that was for so many reasons. She was an incredible fighter and had some of the most entertaining moments, but she also had a tragic backstory, that demands attention. I’m so glad we’re getting more as I need to know more. I’m even tempted to try the mobile game when it launches.

1. Clair Aoki (Gleipnir)

Gleipnir Episode 1 Clair Aoki wants to talk

It took me one glimpse of Clair to know that she was going to be a blast. That one glimpse came in the OP as she walked past Shuuichi, flicked her hair, and gave the best sinister smile. Throughout the series, Clair managed to deliver a number of fantastic looks, but she’s more than just that. Without Clair, there wouldn’t be a story. She was the catalyst that made Shuuichi step up. Before that, he wasn’t even interested. She always had a plan and often would think outside of the box. This made her terrifying to some of the characters as she was impossible to predict. For me, this made her utterly compelling.

I’m sure that everyone will have their own picks for their favourite anime girls and it’s unlikely that anyone will completely agree with my selections. That’s fine. This is my list after all. As with my other lists, there are still shows that I plan on catching up on from 2020. Maybe, I’ll make a second list, although I’m sure I could have made a top twenty, there were so many great characters.

    • That sums her up to perfection. Can’t believe it’s been a whole year since then. So glad we’re getting a second season.

  1. When I saw that Konami Kasahara was all the way down at number 10, I knew this would be a stellar list!

I might have put Yuri a little higher, but she didn’t get that much screen time.

Reading your list reminded me of some good shows in 2020. The year wasn’t a total loss!

    • Yeah, there were some good shows and great characters, and many more that I would have liked to include.

Yuri really needed much more time. I would have watched a show just about her.

I don’t know if it’s just the shows I watch, but there always seems to be more interesting girls than guys. I could have easily done a top twenty!
