Princess Connect! Re: Dive (Episode 16) – Tea Party in the Mysterious Forest ~Afternoon Carries the Scent of Danger~
What happened?
While shopping for groceries, Yuuki and Kokkoro find Aoi or rather she found them. Aoi is now attending St. Theresa’s Academy for Girls and has a problem. Everyone there is so smart and rich and influential whereas she’s just a country girl. Anyhow, she’s been asked to meet with Yuni, the star student of the academy and she’s nervous. Yuuki and Kokkoro offer to go with Aoi to make her feel more comfortable. There they learn that Yuni is investigating a hidden truth to this world. She also hopes to take care of the Green Guardians that inhabit the forest and make it safe for girls to walk to school.
Yuuki and Kokkoro get Pecorine and Karyl to come with them and back up Aoi further. Yuni has her friends, Chieru and Chloe to accompany her too. They venture into the woods and soon encounter a graveyard. Things are already getting weird as the names and places on the gravestones are not familiar. Then, Rosetta, Yuni’s artificial intelligence enhanced stone goes haywire. Before they know what’s going on Yuuki, Pecorine, and Yuni find themselves in some sort of altered dimension where they witness flashbacks of what happened here.

What did you think?
I loved the creepy vibe that this episode had as they searched the forest. As well as that, there were some funny moments. I knew that Yuuki was going to put the book back when he found Yuni staring up at him from the pile of books, but it was still funny. And then, Aoi knocking everyone out so that they wouldn’t find out that the Green Guardians were wooden statues she made to feel less lonely.
I will say that I found Yuni’s babbling at the end to be a little confusing and I feel like I need to watch that part again to fully understand what she was saying. There is one other thing that I need to mention and that’s the false world she was referring to is probably much larger than just the memory loss spell the witch placed on the kingdom so they would forget about Pecorine.

What have you learnt?
In this episode, we saw what looked like glitching and I’m certain that it was entirely intentional. The characters even mentioned the possibility that they went to some sort of parallel world when they saw the cursed king. I think it’s much more than that and my gut tells me that this is going to end up like Sword Art Online where they are all trapped in a game and don’t realise it or it’s an isekai. If you look at the previous episode, when Christina attacks, she appears to create glitches. Is she somehow cheating?
Admittedly, I have a load more story on the mobile game to get through but haven’t had time. I think there is a lot more going on here than it being simply a fantasy story with amazing characters and a beautiful world. Back at the beginning of season one, Yuuki was fired down to the planet where he was being given a second chance. I wonder if the witch is actually a virus that is trying to take over and has locked everyone inside the game. I think there are a lot of possibilities and that makes this series that much more fun to watch.
