Record of Ragnarok (Episode 13) – Good vs. Evil
Brunhilde doesn’t have any time to enjoy humanity’s first win of Ragnarok. There is still much to do. All that matters in the next fight and the gods will be determined not to lose two in a row.
Record of Ragnarok (Episode 13) – Good vs. Evil
What happened?
It doesn’t take long for them to find out who they will be facing as Hercules announces the news himself. They appear to be on friendly terms with Hercules which probably isn’t too surprising considering they are all demigods. Not long after his announcement, Loki comes to Hercules and questions his loyalty. Hercules admits that he doesn’t want to see humanity eradicated so when he wins he will besiege the gods to stop this tournament now. That doesn’t ease Loki’s suspicions one bit.
Goll is torn. She wants to win, but how can they defeat their friend and destroy his soul in the process? Who would they even be able to put up against Hercules anyhow? Unsurprisingly, Brunhilde has already selected the next representative of humanity. Going up against the mighty Hercules is Jack the Ripper, the most heinous murderer in humanity’s history. Even humanity doesn’t know how to respond to such a selection. Can they really cheer on Jack the Ripper? Brunhilde, however, believes she has the perfect opposite of Hercules’ valour – the pinnacle of humanity’s malice!
What did you think?
I had a few issues with the first season, but it ended in a spectacular fashion with an unbelievable fight. That definitely made me appreciate the show more and made it a no-brainer for me to jump into the second season. Now, I am concerned that they will drag out the fights once more, but if they are anything like the third fight I will gladly take it. This episode started the fourth fight of Ragnarok and it was a great way to kick things off.
Brunhilde and Goll are still wonderful characters who give us someone to follow from fight to fight. Then, we have the spectating gods too who are all quite colourful. Hercules comes across exactly as you might expect him to and so does Jack the Ripper. This should be a fascinating fight and I love that we have Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and William Shakespeare offering up opinions from the audience. It’s a bizarre yet brilliant touch.
What have you learnt?
One of my concerns at the end of last season was that they were going to make Jack the Ripper a champion. He is trash and as such I’m delighted with how they have portrayed him so far. There’s nothing redeeming about him so far and he’s almost as mysterious as the stories of the actual murderer. I love that it makes me want to see Hercules win despite the stakes involved. Could this be a clever ploy to pull a fast one on us?
I think it could be. We’ve seen Hercules interacting with Brunhilde and Goll. We’ve seen him tell Loki that he is against Ragnarok and the extermination of humanity. He’s practically on our side. So, I have a feeling that we’re supposed to cheer him on, especially when faced with someone as wicked and sinister as Jack the Ripper. I think Jack is going to win and it’s going to be a very unusual feeling. I think this could be a very interesting piece of storytelling. I shall be taking notes.
