Hinata has summoned the Holy Knights so that they can work out what to do about Rimuru. To strengthen her case, she has an order direct from Luminous, however, the Luminaries arrive and seem to contradict things!
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Episode 53) – Meeting of Both Sides
What happened?
The Holy Knights have been investigating all of the nations after the recent incident between Tempest and Falmuth. The report from Tempest is that their nation is clean and peaceful, their roads are well kept, and the magicule density is only slightly above average. It would appear that Rimuru does intend to live in harmony with the humans. Then, Hinata reveals that Rimuru is an Otherworlder, like her, in the hope that they would realise they are not dealing with a monster. There is some noise from the other Holy Knights, but then Hinata tells them that Luminous has given her a message to pass on – Rimuru is not to be touched.
There’s also a report from Falmuth where the new king is gathering mercenaries and drafting villagers into his army. They believe it will be a civil war and will keep watch. Hinata then reveals that she is going to visit Rimuru and apologise for her actions when they last met. Then, she asks for the Knights to investigate the merchants who are interacting with Falmuth as it was a merchant who fed her incorrect information about Rimuru which made her attack him. She’s not too impressed at being used as a pawn in someone else’s schemes.
Finally, Reyheim is brought out and asked to report on the battle when Veldora supposedly awakened. Before he can say anything, three figures appear before the meeting. They are the Luminaries, powerful beings who have shaped the heroes of the past whom Hinata defeated in order to face Luminous Valentine. They scare Reyheim into telling the truth and when he shows Hinata the message from Rimuru, he appears to challenge her to a fight. The Luminaries give Hinata a sword capable of slaying a dragon and send her to meet with Rimuru. However, she’s acutely aware that they are using her for their own purpose.
What did you think?
At the end of the last episode, I joked that since we saw Hinata arriving at a meeting, the next episode would be a meeting from her point of view… Well, it would appear that I was right. However, this was probably the most interesting of the meetings so far and showed that Hinata is far more shrewd than she may have appeared when she offered to kill Veldora. I liked that she’s realised that she was tricked into fighting Rimuru and can see that she’s being tricked once more, this time by the Luminaries who are obviously still upset that she defeated them.
I also always believed that Reyheim would break and tell them everything, so that wasn’t a big surprise. The Luminaries tampering with Rimuru’s message was also fairly obvious and Hinata even noticed that it was odd that they would know he had a message to give her. Nothing slipped past Hinata’s notice. I think it was at the end of the first season that we briefly saw Hinata, although we had to wait until the second season before we saw her in any action. Straight away, I knew that this was my type of character, so I’m delighted that she’s living up to that initial impression. And, as such, I’ve decided to fill the highlights with Shion… just kidding. There wasn’t any Shion in this episode so Hinata takes all the glory!
Obviously building to something but playing its cards close to the vest.
Yeah. It’s doing a lot of groundwork. Can’t wait to see it come to fruition.
