That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (OVA 3-5) – School’s Out!
Rimuru’s students are about to take part in an outdoor training session and they’re not expected to do very well. Not on Rimuru’s watch though. This time, they are going all out.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (OVA 3-5)
OVA 3 – Rimuru’s Glamorous Life as a Teacher, Part 1
Rimuru’s class of students have settled down after they bonded with some spirits, saving their lives in the process. There doesn’t seem to be much to do now… Well, that was until Rimuru has a run-in with another teacher, sensei Jeff! He hates Rimuru and goads him into entering his class in the outdoor training. It’s a challenge that Jeff’s class always wins.
All Rimuru’s class need is some equipment and a carriage. That’s nothing that Rimuru can’t fix with a quick trip back to Tempest. Everyone is delighted to see that he’s back, but then they discover he’s only there for a short visit which deflates everyone. Luckily, they’re all willing to help with the equipment which is all quite spectacular. Now for the quest.
OVA 4 – Rimuru’s Glamorous Life as a Teacher, Part 2
The outdoor training begins and Rimuru has been assigned to Class A – Jeff Sensei’s students while Tiss Sensei is watching over Class S. It should take them five days to get to their destination, but Class S is making amazing progress with their camper-car and beast gnome. Tiss is amazed at how well they’ve adapted to school since Rimuru showed up.
They actually arrive at their destination half a day earlier than anyone has done before so the Count invites them to explore the caves ahead of time to allow his staff to prepare their rooms. However, when they get into the caves they discover a band of thieves waiting for them. The students protect Tiss Sensei and easily dispatch the thieves. That’s when the butler shows himself and the students instantly spot that he’s not human. The fight isn’t over yet!
OVA 5 – Rimuru’s Glamorous Life as a Teacher, Part 3
The spectre fought off the students without putting too much effort in. However, they knew that they couldn’t win and were content to buy enough time for Rimuru to save them. Getting tired of their games, the spectre went all out and quickly defeated the students. He then demanded that Tiss decided which one would live and then she would have to kill the others herself. She refused to abandon the children and as the spectre attacked she called for a summon.
Something dark and mysterious answered her call and offered to help. Tiss said that she didn’t care what the cost would be as long as he would guarantee to save the children. He told her that he wished to repay a debt to Shizu and that was enough for Tiss. The demon appeared between the spectre and Tiss and then obliterated it. With that done, it was time to pay. All he asked was that his involvement be a secret. If Tiss ever told anyone, her soul would be his.
School’s Out!
I mentioned in my last post from season one that I thought that there was some of the OVA that should have been included in the season. Well, this was what I was talking about. At first, I was a little reluctant as this continues the school arc. I think it takes place somewhere between the students getting their spirits and the end of episode twenty-three. It added some much-needed perspective and development for the students.
The first part of the three-part OVA was pretty much entirely set up. Not much happened at all, but that’s why I’ve put these all together for this post. Well, that and they do form a complete min-arc. I would recommend watching all three in a row.
The second episode was far better than the first one and ironically, I think that was largely because Rimuru wasn’t in it much. It allowed the students to step up and show what they were made of without him. I enjoyed their initial fight where they got to show off their new skills and even call on the spirits that they had each bonded with. I was actually excited for the final episode of the OVAs after this one which is a big improvement considering this is part of my least favourite arc.
Fun fact about the bandits that tried to capture the students. They first appeared in episode four of season one. When Rimuru and Gobta were waiting to enter Dwargon, they were harassed by a bunch of meatheads. That’s right, this is the same bunch. It probably doesn’t mean much in the long run, but it was a nice touch.
And finally, this was an amazing ending to the three-part arc and the re-introduction of the demon, Black was outstanding. He instantly raised the tension and showed us what someone truly powerful can do. You’ve got to wonder how he stacks up compared to Rimuru! However, it’s yet another tease of things to come.
Of course, after all the fun stuff was done, Rimuru saved the Count’s wife and accidentally advanced medical procedures by centuries. Pretty much as you might expect for Rimuru. There’s not much more to say about this one other than I think anyone that is enjoying the series should definitely watch this arc as it ties in a lot of things and refreshes even more. Well, I’m about ready to jump into season two now. Bring it on!
