Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (Volume 11) – Cruise Ship of the Dead

As they attempted the Shikoku 88 Shrine pilgrimage, they were spotted by escaped criminals who waited for a chance to steal all of their cans. They took Beatrix too. Now, the rest will have to find a way to save her and finish the pilgrimage.
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (Volume 11) – Cruise Ship of the Dead
What happened?
Luckily, they didn’t take her far and Beatrix had the presence of mind to leave a trail for them to follow in the form of votive slips. However, when they found where the criminals were holding her, they saw the mountain they faced. There were at least ten criminals and all looked pretty strong. Thankfully, Shizuka had an idea of how to settle it. It wasn’t going to be easy and the danger factor was high, but it was their best shot. They walked through the woods chanting and rattling their staffs, drawing in more and more zombies. When they had amassed a pretty large horde, they led them to the criminals’ hideout.
The zombies attacked, scattering the criminals. However, Beatrix was still inside with the boss when the horde broke in. They toppled a shrine and caused some of the structure to come crashing down, trapping Beatrix and the boss. They quickly pulled Beatrix out and were about to run when Beatrix went back to save the boss. She was following the ten precepts and couldn’t allow someone to die. She could also sense that he didn’t want to be on his current path. They all escaped from the shrine by jumping down a waterfall. After gathering themselves, Beatrix gave the criminal boss some advice before leaving. He went on to attempt the pilgrimage alone.
After finishing the pilgrimage, they headed to the coast to relax. Then, a luxury cruise ship appeared before them. They were greeted by a muscle-bound guy with a girl in a bikini on both arms. He offered to take them aboard although Kencho needed no such invitation. Apparently, he had already given a scientist and another guy a ride, dropping them off on a secluded island. Once aboard, they discovered that it really was a pleasure boat… with an emphasis on pleasure. Suddenly, everyone but Kencho was starting to feel a little awkward!

What did you think?
The criminals kidnapped Beatrix and were threatening to do some unspeakable things to her, however, the boss seemed to put an end to that and instead decided to question her. We got to see that he was a victim of circumstances himself and his criminal acts had been forced upon him. Before anything happened, the scene was already over with Shizuka leading a horde of zombies upon the criminals. I was hoping for a little more, but I guess that’s where we are now. There really isn’t much substance to this series anymore. It feels like we’re just going through the motions and following random subplots.
The cruise ship scenes were very bizarre, although not unheard of in a zombie series. If they were trying to make everyone feel uncomfortable they achieved that. Of course, the sudden appearance of zombies on the boat was kind of ridiculous. I can’t believe that he only just decided to break down the door, ignoring the warning sign stuck to it, having not heard the zombies once in the whole time they’d been on the boat. I do like the idea of Akira saving Shizuka and waking up on a deserted island, although I think the things that led to that could have been better orchestrated. A slight improvement, but still far from the earlier successes.
