Undead Unluck (Volume 2) – Revelations

What happened?

Unchange couldn’t stop Fuuko’s Unluck ability once Andy got within her sphere of power. That ended in her death, although she seemed to welcome it. In all her time with Union, she hadn’t been able to change a thing. She put her hopes with Andy and Fuuko. All they had to do now was wait for Union to collect them and they soon did. Of course, the initial moments at the round table quickly descended into chaos as Andy picked a fight with just about anyone.

Once everything had calmed down, things took a bizarre turn when a talking book called Apocalypse appeared and gave them a number of missions to complete. Failure would result in a new Uma called Galaxy. Fuuko had no idea what was going on, but that didn’t stop Andy from attacking the book and asking which was the hardest mission. That would be the capture of an Uma called Spoil. They soon learnt that the Uma were the opposite of the Negators. Andy had the power to regenerate thanks to his Undead ability. Spoil could literally spoil anything it wanted.

They followed the intel to a town called Longing in New York where the spoil had been contained by a giant wall. Inside, the townspeople had been turned into rotting zombies. Andy charged in without thinking, he got the spoil curse, married a zombie, and then thought Spoil with Unluck-infused zombies. A pretty typical day really.

What did you think?

Oh wow! This was a massive change in direction from the first volume and I’m all for it. The first volume had them on the run from the organisation called Union, but now they are a part of it and appear to be trying to stop the being that is tormenting Earth – some sort of all-powerful god! The Uma are a fantastic addition as they are clearly the polar opposites of the Negators. That opens up all sorts of possibilities for the ongoing battles. I also liked that Andy enslaved an Uma that turned itself into clothes, meaning that he doesn’t have to run around naked going forward.

The first volume was fun but didn’t really leave me inspired. This one, however, gives the story some real direction. Of course, we also got to see Andy’s true form. That was strong enough for all the Negators to be called to attempt to subdue him and get regular Andy back. This series just got a lot more interesting.
