I Get the Feeling That Nobukuni-san Likes Me (Volume 1) – The (Awkward) Art of Seduction
What happened?
Nodoka Nobukuni hadn’t shown the slightest interest in boys until she went to high school when a new student sat beside her. Sasaki is from Tokyo and she is in love with him. Only, she hasn’t found the confidence to tell him. Luckily, she has an advice column in her favourite teen magazine to help. So, each week, she tries out the latest advice in the hopes that Sasaki will notice her. The first piece of advice involves armpit pheromones… Nodoka ends up exposing both of her armpits in the hope he will fall madly in love with her.
She tries sleeping at her desk in the hopes that her vulnerability will enchant him. She tries to smell behind his ears to see if they are compatible. Maybe, she can flirt with him on Line if she can get his user ID. Then, she reads that wearing sexy underwear might give her the confidence that makes her irresistible. It just seems to make her feel uncomfortable, however, Sasaki tells her she looks sexy today, and that was before she accidentally flashed her tiny panties at him. Ironically, Sasaki has a very good idea that she likes him and is trying to find a way to ask her, although he is constantly second-guessing the situation. Everyone in the class has no doubt about how she feels though.
What did you think?
This was hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud every time it announced what she was going to try today, even before we got to see what she was going to do. It’s easy to look at this book and think they’re both being silly and that it’s completely obvious, but I remember being that age and missing all sorts of signals or misinterpreting them. I thought this was a perfect depiction of what it’s like being a teenager and wondering if a person likes you.
I loved the part where they walked home together and both ended up walking in the wrong direction because they were both trying to make the walk last longer. It was even funnier when they both noticed. This is a feel-good story with some good comedic moments and others that will just leave you grinning. I thought I couldn’t possibly enjoy another [girl’s name]-san/chan does/is something sort of book, but I was completely wrong. There is no end to the possibilities and as long as they leave me feeling like this, I’ll keep reading them. This was a lot of fun.
