Golden Time (Volume 2) – Of Unrequited Love, a Pixie Princess, and the Robot Dance!
What happened?
Kaga Kouko had decided to play it cool with Yanagisawa Mitsou and even failed to respond to his message asking if she was all right after the cult incident. Tada spotted her hiding out of sight as he spoke to Yana, but it didn’t last long. Yana introduced Tada to a short, bubbly girl called Chinami. Aware that Kaga was watching, Tada tried to play things down, but it was of no use. Kaga jumped into the scene and threatened just about everyone, declaring that she was going to marry Yana. Of course, he was furious and stormed away with Chinami.
Tada and Kaga had an appointment with Linda, the girl that saved them in the woods when they ran from the cultists. She had invited them to join her group – a cultural festival research society that was focused on keeping old traditions alive. This year, they were going to perform a traditional dance at a festival and invited Tada and Kaga to have a go. Tada showed some potential, whereas Kaga looked like C3PO trying to dance…
Kaga took some time off school as she came to terms with everything that had happened and when she returned, she arranged for Tada and Yana to meet with her. She had put together a large dossier detailing why she was destined to be with Yana. He denied everything and told her that he liked her, but could never love her after everything she had done to him. She was devastated and ended up dragging Tada to a rock concert. They got drunk, danced on the stage, got kicked off the stage, and then staggered home. Tada confessed his feelings for her and then realised it was a terrible time to do so. She left but asked him to meet her later that day. To kill time, Tada went home and made a shocking discovery.

What did you think?
At first, I found the scene with Tada trying to stop Yana from revealing too much about Chinami a little jarring. He does do some fairly odd things, but that’s nothing compared to how Kaga acts. Then, I settled right back into the story. The stuff with Linda was fun and the C3PO dancing was a bit of a highlight. In a way, I do feel sorry for Kaga, but I can absolutely understand how Yana feels too. She has pushed him too hard and driven him away from his friends. We can almost see it happening with Tada too.
For me, the rawest scene in this volume was when Kaga woke up in Tada’s apartment and they had a real heart-to-heart about how she realised what she had done to Yana and how he struggled to come to terms with the fact that he wasn’t the person everyone expected him to be and as such he felt left out. That was a very powerful moment and I can see why he would naturally want to confess his feelings for Kaga.
Of course, that was then overshadowed by the fact that Tada discovered that he used to know Linda when he was in high school before he lost his memory. They were apparently quite close. She even wrote in his yearbook, demanding he not forget her. She was a year older than him and as such went to university before the incident that cost him his memory. This is getting very interesting.
