Author Journey (April 2020)

Lynn Sheridan Author Journey April 2020

Surprisingly, it’s the end of April 2020… and thanks to social distancing and the world slowing down, it’s been almost impossible to tell what day it is let alone what month. So, what have I been up to? Let’s find out!

Got any big announcements?

I finally managed to slow down my output of posts, although it’s more accurate to say the current global pandemic has managed to slow down my output. But why? Aren’t I at home that much more than normal. Well, yes, however, the kids are home and with the way my job works, I’m able to do most of it in the witching hours. That means, I’m watching the kids in the day, working in the night, and squeezing what little free time I have into keeping my site going. It is tiring, but I’m pushing through.

WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?

On a slightly more cheery note, one of my goals for 2020 was to get one million views on my other site, that I run with Yomu from the Umai Yomu Anime Blog. We launched the site in June last year and have been busily reviewing everything ecchi since then. In the first seven months, we managed to have 115k views, which honestly blew our minds. We knew we were onto something but never expected that. Anyhow, in April 2020, we had almost 110k views. That’s one calendar month!

How’s the writing going?

Hahahahahahaha! I haven’t done any. Not even a word. I’ve been thinking a lot about stories and that’s not really helped me. I’ve been thinking of writing a time-travel murder mystery trilogy with a dark, comedic tone since the beginning of the year as a way of getting back into writing, but now, I’m thinking I should write a zombie series. Then, I get more ideas about my epic fantasy series that I’m turning my old vampire series into. On top of that, I have an idea for a harem romantic comedy and the plot for the first arc written out.

Once this is all over and things start to return to normal, I’m going to have about thirty series to write… Another couple of months of this and who knows what I’ll have lined up!

Have you done anything interesting?

Last month, I mentioned that I’d started playing Pokemon Go with the kids to get them to come for a walk and get some daily fresh air. Since, March 23, which is when I added the app, I have walked 200 kilometres, caught 2,000 Pokemon, and visited 532 PokeStops… Most of that has been dragging a wagon with two children in or pushing a stroller. I’m getting a total body workout. It’s also got my eldest son into Pokemon and he’s been watching the Pokemon: Sun & Moon series. I think we’ll start on Magical Girl Raising Project next…

Anyhow, if you play Pokemon Go feel free to friend me, I seem to have loads of gifts and can’t carry many more items. My trainer code is – 8632 8817 2933.

What have you been watching?

The new season is underway and I seem to have picked up seven titles. The second season of Fruits Basket was an obvious choice after enjoying the first season so much. Unfortunately, Plunderer is a two cour series, so that’s still going on! Ironically, I ended up not keeping up with the other show I really wanted to. That one was Gleipnir. I will catch up with it before the end of the season though. So, these are the shows, I’m covering here, for better or for worse. Once I’ve started reviewing them, there’s pretty much no way I’m going to stop.

Do you have any plans for next month?

I’m just going to keep moving forward. The days all seem to blend into one long day as of late, so it’ll be the end of May before I know what’s happened. The schools here have confirmed that they will remain closed until the end of May at the earliest, so I think that’s pretty much the rest of the school year over. I have a play structure to build in my back garden and more story ideas coming to me daily. We’ve all just got to do our parts to keep the vulnerable safe and once this is all over, we can rebuild. It’s a pretty unique opportunity to change the way things are done, and if I’m honest, I think things will be different for quite some time.

Other shows I’m watching

  • My Dress Up Darling

Discounted Light Novels

    • Yeah. It’s finding the time at the moment with so many competing things. Hopefully, I’ll come out of this raring to go once things calm down.

  1. I’m finding hard to write too, though that’s more about stress making it hard to be creative. (I’m on the edge of being in two vulnerable groups, and my wife’s job is tagged essential… it’s not public facing, though her workplace is.)

    • Stress is no good and this situation certainly isn’t helping. Stay safe and focus on chilling with some cool anime.
