Author Journey (July 31, 2023)
The slight change I made to my schedule is already looking like it was the right choice. I had a great week and even started writing again. Small steps to begin with but it’s starting to feel more manageable.

Taking the pressure off the scheduled posts has freed up my mind to be able to work on writing fiction again. It’s funny such a small change can instantly deliver. I think that’s why I tend not to commit to things and always leave myself with some room to enable changes. Just like evolving to survive our abilities to adapt to situations are what make it possible for us to keep going. Also, this post is going out a little later than usual because I’m trying to be a little more relaxed with my routine, allowing me to go with the flow, so to speak. We’ll just have to see how that goes!
The Weekly Recap!
I’m continuing to feel really good about the decision to cover Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead and Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation on an episodic basis as they release even though the wait between episodes is tough. This week I also managed to squeeze in a movie which was equivalent in length to four episodes and eight more episodes of Fairy Tail. It’s all going pretty well so far. Goal achieved.
I remembered recently that I have a couple of weeks coming up where I will have very limited internet access so I decided I would get to work on ensuring I have enough posts for that time period. Luckily most of the work was done, but I added a couple of extra manga reviews and a review of the movie I watched. In the end, I read four volumes because I couldn’t stop myself. I needed to know what happened next…
With regular posts, episodic posts, and manga posts, I found myself excelling in this category once more. I had planned on completing seven posts but ended up with eight, and that’s without this post which I’m writing on Monday morning for a change. I’m starting to see the coming weeks fill up with scheduled posts minus the space for episodic posts, which will keep me active enough.
I started work on the second draft of RIP Tide, although this is more of a second first draft with the extra POV, and it’s been a lot of fun so far. It’s a zombie series so I’m trying to incorporate all my favourite zombie tropes and since it’s early in the story, ie nothing has really happened yet, there’s been lots of clues as to what will come. I ended up writing six days out of seven and each of those days I exceeded my goal of five hundred words.
Still no drawing last week, but I finally have my tablet and will be experimenting with that over the week. I’ve not been this excited in a while so I’m sure I’ll get plenty of use out of it.

Aspirations for the Week!
I’m going to need to pack in some work this week as next week is going to be busy with the day job and a lack of summer camp activities for the kids. So, I’m going to have to get my head down so I can enjoy my two weeks of limited internet access without worrying about things. I’ll be taking my tablet with me and since writing and drawing don’t need internet that will work out nicely.
Watching Anime
As usual, I have Mushoku Tensei and Zom 100 episodes to watch. I’ve still got plenty of time to finish Fairy Tail before I need to review it, but I would like to get that finished sooner. It would be nice to load a bunch of shows onto my tablet while I’m away and I’d like to binge a couple of shows. Of course, that means I may not do my episodic posts for a couple of weeks, but I will catch up when back if needed. So, I’ll stick with 12 episodes again.
Goal: 12 Episodes
Reading Manga
I don’t have anything pressing here, but I am sitting on volumes five to ten of Zom 100 and there’s no way I’m going to ignore them for long. I’ll aim for three this week, but there’s a good chance it might be more.
Goal: 3 Books
Posts Scheduled
This is where things get interesting. I have two posts that I haven’t written yet, which are series reviews for a complete manga series. After that, I’m working on what I do this week. So, any manga I read, if I finished Fairy Tail, and the episodic posts. There’s this post which I will count and probably the one for next Monday that I’ll write on Sunday night when I normally do them. That would be nine, although 2 don’t need to be done now. If I get to them that’ll be a bonus, so I’ll stick with seven.
Goal: 7 Posts
Writing
So, I’m working on my habit of writing daily and it went pretty well last week, missing just one day. Even so, I managed to hit my word count so that saved the week. I’m still going to continue to write daily because I can see the word count increasing over time. I used to be able to write three to five thousand words a day and I started then aiming for one hundred and fifty words a day. So, I’m going to stick with the process that’s working at the moment.
Goal: Continue Second Draft of RIP Tide (3.5k words minimum)
Artwork Completed
I already have the software that I’m going to use on my laptop so I just need to download the app version for the tablet and then it’s playtime. Exciting times!
Goal: Play around with the tablet
Final Thoughts
It’s taken a while and a bit of an iterative process but I think I’m now in a position to really make the most of all the different aspects I’m trying to incorporate. I’m able to keep up with new shows as they air. I have a plan to catch up on older shows that I missed. I’m reading more than enough manga. I’m writing again. And now, I’m set up to really push hard on the art side of things. It’s been an up-and-down journey to this point, but I’m happy with where things are now.
So, I’m going to ride this positive feeling and see what I can get through. It’s nice to be on this side of things because I’ve had a rough year so far which makes this feel like I’m turning a corner. Hopefully, there’s nothing waiting to ambush me… lol!
