Bastard‼ Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy (Episode 8) – The Progenitor
Dark Schneider turned back into Lucien in the middle of the woods and happened to stumble upon Yoko bathing in a lake. Talk about good luck. Then, they stumbled upon Count Di-amon, the third of Arshes Nei’s generals!
Bastard‼ Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy (Episode 8) – The Progenitor
What happened?
Lucien was lost in the woods with only Lars for company, however, Lars had no idea what was going on. Luckily, Lucien found a small lake with a waterfall and was surprised to see Yoko bathing beneath it. She was just as stunned. Before she knew what was happening she ran across the lake and hugged Lucien. Her initial reaction caused her bodyguards to come running. When they realised she was naked, they quickly apologised, but it was too late. Yoko sent them all flying. However, Lucien didn’t seem to have noticed.
As they ate, Yoko asked Lucien where he had been, but he has no memory of the times when Dark Schneider takes over. The bodyguards were curious about whether they could trust the dragon since it was Gara’s pet. Yoko vouched for Gara and then the guards told the story of how Princess Sheila’s older brother was called Lars and he used an ancient spell to become the Dragon Knight and fight Dark Schneider, but what are the chances the two things are related?
Just then, they were attacked by a werewolf searching for virgins for his master, Count Di-amon and his nose led him to Yoko. When he tried to take her, Dark Schneider was able to take control of Lucien’s body and fight him off. However, Count Di-amon was watching and worked out that Dark Schneider was trapped within the boy. This was his chance to defeat him. He charged in and captured them. Once back at his castle, it was revealed that his minions also caught Sean Ari and Kai Harn… or did they?
What did you think?
I’m not going to lie. This was my least favourite episode yet. Things became more of a parody in the last episode but this one just felt a bit half-assed. The animation went down in quality and the intensity has completely vanished. The fact that they paraded a bunch of virgin girls before the count and just had them standing there like a bunch of undressed Barbie dolls was bizarre. If you’re not going to show anything pick better angles and use other things to cover the important parts. Don’t just not draw them! On top of that, it’s all getting a bit too silly.
At some point, I’m hoping that they up the intensity and embrace the darkness. Dark Schneider squashed a werewolf’s head beneath his foot in this episode, but then Yoko went on to lecture him about it. Shut up, Yoko. The werewolf was after her. There seems to be a massive disconnect between what’s going on and what the characters are experiencing and I think the decision to not truly go for it with this series is responsible. They could be having so much fun with half-dressed women, monsters, and dark wizards, but instead, we get a Kiss reference sucking the blood from a JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure reference. Also, it’s as if they’ve never seen a vampire movie before. I’m really disappointed right now!
