Lazy Dungeon Master (Volume 1) – Only Wake Me if the Dungeon is on Fire

Masuda Keima has been summoned to another world by a Dungeon core 695 and now she expects him to protect the core and vanquish all enemies. Keima, however, just wants to have a nap. This is all too exciting!
Lazy Dungeon Master (Volume 1) – Only Wake Me if the Dungeon is on Fire
What happened?
Dungeon Core 695 is a bit of a mouthful so Keima decides to call her Rokuko. However, when he tells her his name, she butchers Masuda, making it sound like Master Keima. That was enough for the dungeon to officially make Keima the dungeon master. Rokuko may be the core, but she still has to do everything Keima says. For now, he would like her to leave him alone while he has a little sleep. Everything else can wait.
When he wakes, Rokuko is quick to tell him about some bandits that have turned their tiny dungeon into their home. She wants them gone. However, Keima works out that they acquire DP when someone is in the dungeon, so he has a better idea. He rewards the bandits, giving them a reason to stay there. Eventually, someone bigger and badder will come along, but until then, they can keep generating DP. And, in the meanwhile, he could get a little shut-eye.

What did you think?
So, I have some mixed feelings about this one. Firstly, I did enjoy it and will definitely read more. Now, I understand that the “lazy” part of this is all about Keima being a bit of a layabout. For a little while, he managed to use that power to ignore stuff and go to bed to his advantage, but then it slowly tapered off. I really enjoyed the strategy elements of the story and how Keima is clearly calling on his gaming experience to turn their one-room dungeon into something special.
There seemed to be no reason to make Rokuko look like a child when she had already shown us her fully grown form. That just made things awkward. Also, what is it with fantasy isekai characters and slaves? Now, I understand that he is improving her life, however, couldn’t he have just removed the collar and set Meat free… and don’t get me started about her name.
Basically, it was a fun read with some interesting ideas, but it had some troubling aspects that I’d love to see resolved. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a person come to another world and instantly try to free all the slaves? They can still be edgy, even without owning people. The idea of a clothing golem that could make him fight was a very clever idea though.
