ROLL OVER AND DIE: I Will Fight for an Ordinary Life with My Love and Cursed Sword! (Volume 2) – Gotcha!
What happened?
Flum and Milkit returned from their encounter with the werewolf, much to the surprise of the guild members. Upon inspection of the goods, however, the receptionist was satisfied and they received their reward. Flum used it to get them lodgings and food, and the next day she bought Milkit some clothes and a book so that she could learn to read. While in the market, they witnessed a robbery. Flum raced to help and Brought one of the men to his knees. The second was handily dealt with by a nun, Sara.
While Sara fetched the holy knights, the merchant asked Flum if she would take on a special quest for him. His wife is sick and magic won’t cure it. However, a potion made from special herbs will, but using herbs for healing has been outlawed by the church. Flum agrees to help him and surprisingly, Sara wants to come too. She doesn’t have the same views as the church she serves.
Thanks to some books at the church, they find the location of the herbs, but there was an ogre waiting for them. They easily defeated it, but that was just the beginning. The ogre climbed to its feet, its face a swirling mess. Flum had seen this before. They ran but were trapped inside some sort of research facility. To make things even stranger, the ogre had Flum’s name in its stats and then she saw her name again scratched into the wall of the facility. What is going on?

What did you think?
I loved the first volume, but this was a huge step up in storytelling. The first volume did a great job of showing us the world and introducing us to Flum and Milkit. In this volume, we me Sara and Neigass, one of the three demon chiefs. However, it was the way that it started to delve more into the strange occurrence with the werewolves. The ogre chasing them through the facility was terrifying, especially when that body caught Flum’s hand with its spiralling face. She needed Sara to heal her arm so that it would melt off, allowing her to escape.
Flum’s ability to flip everything is fascinating. The moment that Sara first tried to use healing magic on her was brutal, with her legs literally turning to mush. I also love the idea of the equipment holding onto the wishes of the fallen adventurers, becoming cursed if they died with anger in their hearts.
Of course, the secret church facility was a great addition to the story and helped to raise a number of questions about this world. So far, it would appear that the church has been lying about everything and performing secret experiments. How is Flum involved? That’s the big question. We also saw that demons were determined not to kill humans so that gives more power to the idea that the church is somehow trying to control everything. This is a fantastic series so far. I hope it continues in this manner.
