Summer Time Rendering (Volume 4) – To Be/Not To Be / Lights Camera Action
What happened?
Hizuru and Nezu were shocked when Ushio appeared before them next to Shinpei. However, Hizuru was inclined to believe Shinpei about how she wasn’t a threat, especially given how much they knew about Ryunosuke. Regardless, Ushio showed Hizuru her memories which did an incredible job of filling in the blanks. There was a lot to cover and that sped things up considerably. Now, they could focus on defeating Shiori even though they knew they couldn’t completely stop her yet.
However, things didn’t go as planned and that became apparent when Hizuru’s body flew out of the top floor window missing an arm. Shiori came to the window along with Shide, the four-armed Shadow. After Shiori put her mark on Shinpei’s arm it allowed her to follow him every time he looped. Before things could get too bad, Ushio beheaded Shinpei and joined him as they looped once more.
This time, they stopped Hizuru from attacking Shiori. They needed to come up with a new plan entirely. Shinpei gathered everyone together and had Ushio show them her memories. It was hard to accept for some, but they all came around in the end. Even Tokiko accepted that she had been played by the Shadows. This time, they would attack with everything they knew, but would it be enough?
What did you think?
So, this was an amazing development. The revelation that Heine was able to loop and as such could instantly update her Shadows. Whenever and wherever he showed up, she would know and be ready for him. That added an incredible amount of pressure to the problems that Shinpei has to deal with. There was some talk about Shinpei’s eye and how he got it. Someone hypothesised that Ushio gave him it, copying one of Heine’s eyes, but I’m not so sure. I remember him noticing that it was different, but I feel like we missed something or we weren’t shown it.
We also have no idea how Ushio managed to put a message on Hizuru’s phone. There are still lots of things to be explained and I hope we do get everything neatly tied up because so far this series deserves it. For one, I’m still waiting for the other Ushio to show up and I feel like there’s more to Shinpei’s parents’ death than them just finding Hiruko’s Cavern.
It also claimed that Shide was Heine’s first creation, but I also feel like this is a misdirection. Part of me wonders if it isn’t actually two people in there. Could they be Shinpei’s parents? That would certainly be a massive shocker and may help to explain how Shinpei’s eye happened. We know that Heine lost her eye when she tried to copy Ryunosuke. It’s possible that someone copied it then, but how did they get it to Shinpei in the future? So many questions!
