Uncle from Another World (Volume 1) – Welcome to the Next World

Seventeen years ago, Takafuma’s uncle was hit by a truck and fell into a coma. Since then, the family has fallen apart so it’s up to Takafuma to tell his uncle he’s on his own. Well, that was until he saw him using magic!
Uncle from Another World (Volume 1) – Welcome to the Next World
What happened?
His uncle tried to tell him that he had been to another world for the past seventeen years. He was even speaking a strange language, although it could have just been brain damage from the coma. However, it was when he used magic that Takafuma finally believed him. So, rather than having his uncle fend for himself, Takafuma decided that they would live together and find a way to make money from his uncle’s abilities.
The most pressing issue, however, was who won the console war between Sega and Nintendo. His uncle needed to know how Sega was doing and was distraught by what he discovered. He instantly wrote down the news and then wiped it from his memory with magic. He does that with everything traumatic that happened to him. Anyhow, in an attempt to make some money, Takafuma sets his uncle up with a YouTube channel where he can show off his magic.
As they struggled to get by, his uncle began to tell Takafuma all about his time in the other world. Thanks to magic, he could even show him. Soon Takafuma realised that his uncle was a complete shut-in with a Sega fetish. There were girls that showed an interest in him, but he was too sheltered to even notice. Sure, they may have been tsundere’s but come on!

What did you think?
While this may be a fairly slow read, it sure is funny and gives a very strange vibe. I love the way Takafuma’s uncle is completely clueless about the way people felt about him and that he has to sit there watching it with his uncle, hoping that he finally puts the pieces together. I think I would prefer to see more of the other world adventures than a thirty-something shut-in explaining the stories to us, but it definitely is funny.
So, if you want a lighter isekai experience with more of a slice-of-life comedy feel to it then this might be the series for you. It was certainly interesting enough that I will continue and at some point, I’ll check out the anime too. It’s definitely a different way of looking at things. I find that I’m feeling that I missed out on the actual exciting part of the story which we’re going to no doubt get in small doses rather than an epic adventure.
