What happened?
Enjo Retto remembers his first encounter with the Kiseichuu. He was with his childhood best friend, Hoshino Kirara when it happened. The mysterious humanoid bug appeared before them at a playground and threatened to feast on their energy. Ever since that moment, Hoshino has not been the same. She has closed herself off, avoiding all contact with boys, and distancing herself from her best friend. Seeing her like that day after day has driven Retto to fight back against the Kiseichuu using a weapon created by his uncle that turns erotic energy in a powerful attack capable of destroying the Keseichuu.
After witnessing another attack where a Keseichuu drained the energy of a group of idol fans, he rushed in and sent it flying with a powerful attack. Unfortunately, when the H-energy is unleashed in this way, it destroys Retto’s clothes. A small price to pay in exchange for destroying the Keseichuu. However, this particularly Keseichuu wasn’t completely destroyed. With a new body from its Queen, it found Retto when he was attempting to talk to Kirara. He tried to defend her, but his energy had been drained from their last battle. All they could do was run.
As they hid in the same play structure where this had all begun, Kirara realised what she had been missing when she closed herself off from Retto all those years ago. He believed that the Keseichuu had drained Kirara’s H-energy, leaving her empty inside. However, the truth was that Kirara had so much H-energy that the bug couldn’t handle it and was destroyed, leaving Kirara ashamed and self-conscious. Thankfully, what she had locked away all those years back was awakened, giving them the power to fight back… at the cost of their clothes. Luckily, the rest of Retto’s team arrived with a change of clothes and explained to Kirara the full situation going forward.
What did you think?
Before the Summer 2020 season, I picked a number of shows and attempted to guess what would happen based on the title images alone. I selected two to watch and review on an episodic basis and planned on watching the others at the end of the season. Super HxEros was one of the latter shows, and ironically one of the ones that I enjoyed the most. I had always planned on going back and giving it the full treatment, so here we are. I also seems like the perfect series to review alongside SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist as both deal with repressed sexuality and where the heroes have it in abundance. I’d love to say that I planned it that way, but, alas, it was just a happy coincidence.
My favourite thing about this episode was the way it lead us to believe that Kirara had been drained of her H-energy leaving her empty inside. We were told over and over again that the Keseichuu drained the sexual desires of their prey, making them lose all desires to have sex and reproduce. We say it happen. It was pretty obvious that something like that happened to Kirara based on the changes everyone noted about her personality. However, no one but Retto really knew what had caused the change. Ironically, he wasn’t entirely correct in his interpretation.
So, when we learned that Kirara possessed so much potential H-energy that it killed the Keseichuu, it flipped everything on its head. The story made out that we would follow Kirara as she attempted to regain her will to live. In reality, we discovered that she repressed her desires because she was ashamed of how much H-energy she possessed, especially as the Keseichuu was shocked and then killed by it. So, now, we will see if she can learn to accept who she is and embrace it, especially when it may be the power they need to ultimately defeat the Keseichuu and save humanity! It’s a brilliant twist.
