Author Journey (March 2020)

The Otaku Author Author Journey March 2020

March has certainly been one of those months. It’s been hard to escape from the big news and the impact that it’s had on the world, let alone my writing. It’s time to look at what I’m doing and adjust my plan!

Got any big announcements?

The big news is the impact of COVID-19. For me, I’m relatively healthy and shouldn’t have any problems, but that doesn’t mean I’m running around outside, hugging and licking random people and objects. I may be fine, but I know that many others aren’t so lucky. That’s why I have been practising social distancing. I’m lucky that I can work from home, but my kids are also home and so is the Mrs… It’s definitely made everything that much harder, but we are doing our best and that’s all anyone can ask for.

So, last month I talked about slowing down the rate of my posts as three a day was not what I had intended and was more a measure to rebuild this website since the relaunch on December 17, 2019. Well, I managed to slow down a little bit, but then I realised that Fruits Basket season two starts in April and I really wanted to make my season one posts available before that, so I switched to two posts a day and three a day three times a week… Haha! I’ll get there soon.

How’s the writing going?

This has been one of the areas hit the hardest by the new daily routine. I have barely written or edited anything and it’s a little frustrating. That said, it may be best to hold off with the Black Death trilogy what with everything that’s going on in the world right now. It might cut a little too close to home. Maybe a couple of months after this has all calmed down and life has returned to normal.

I definitely need to get started on a new project to work on side by side with the editing. Doing just editing is quite tiring and doesn’t really free up the creative side of the brain that plotting and drafting does. I have so many ideas though and really need to focus on just one for a little bit and get it published. It’s been too long since I released anything.

Have you done anything interesting?

I’ve started playing Pokemon Go in an attempt to get the children out of the house and to go for a walk (while staying away from other people). So far, it’s going well and you can often see me dragging a wagon with two children in it from Poke Stop to Poke Stop while they work an iPad connected to my phone. Last week, I walked almost fifty kilometres and it looks like that will continue. If nothing else, I’m getting them outdoors and it’s good exercise for me. So, if you play Pokemon Go feel free to friend me, I seem to have loads of gifts and can’t carry many more items. My trainer code is – 8632 8817 2933.

What have you been watching?

Most of the current season of anime has now ended and there have been some really good titles. Some have lost their impact as the season went on, but there’s only really one that I really am not enjoying. That is Plunderer! It just seems to get worse and worse and I can’t believe it’s a twenty-four episode season. I haven’t decided what I’m going to watch next season, but have somewhat of a shortlist so I’ll let you know when I know.

Do you have any plans for next month?

It’s almost impossible to make any plans at the moment with everything uncertain. The main goal is to just keep on moving forward. Keep the posts and reviews coming. Keep walking and catching Pokemon! Get myself writing again. I just need to pick something and stick to it. It’s a shorter one this month, but I’d like to thank you for reading my posts and giving me some purpose in these dark days. So, stay safe, wash your hands, and don’t lick any strangers!

  1. “This has been one of the areas hit the hardest by the new daily routine.”

Before the pandemic, I’d finally started to make slow steady progress. Now I’m dead in the water. Part of it is that I’m actually working more hours, since I can’t leave the office, and folks seem to expect answers at 5:00PM when I start work around 6:00AM. And truth be told, everyone’s so frazzled, I don’t want to contribute to anyone’s bad day.

But my writing’s taking a beating.

Yeah, I’m working at least 18 hours a day at the moment. Full time job as usual but interspersed throughout the day, plus trying to keep the kids occupied, educated, exercised, and fed. Hopefully, things will get back to normal soon, but I’m not optimistic.

And, of course, the new season has just begun…
