Author Journey (March 25, 2024)

And breathe! I had a very fun and busy week with the family. My step count more than doubled every single day and I managed to do something to my elbow. Other than that, it’s great to be back. I’ve got some catching up to do!

Favourite Moment!
So, the real-life family event I mentioned last week was a five-day trip to Walt Disney World in Florida (six if you include travel time). We visited all four of the parks and did pretty much all of the important rides thanks to my wife’s vigilant planning and optimisation of the lightning passes. We definitely got our money’s worth from that program. My favourite rides were Big Thunder Mountain, Tron Lightcycle Run, Expedition Everest, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Ironically, I think Big Thunder Mountain wins because the others were too dark to really see much. The Tron Lightcycle had a pretty spectacular launch sequence, but other than that it was fairly tame. Also, a lot of the rides were far too short. Fun, but short.

Writing!
I got absolutely nothing done. I had my current work in progress in my Google Docs to read through. I was going to do some notes on the characters and stuff like that, but after almost thirty-thousand steps each day, I was exhausted and given how late we ended up going to bed each night, there was no time for anything else. It was Disney, Disney, Disney, Sleep, Disney! It was fun, but I’m looking forward to getting back into my regular schedule!
Anime!
I actually managed to squeeze eight episodes in which was in the early hours of Monday morning… I know I shouldn’t but I couldn’t help myself. I got hooked on Gushing Over Magical Girls and then 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy! so I kept watching when common sense would dictate I sleep… It’s not the first time and certainly won’t be the last time.

Manga!
I wasn’t expecting to get through any manga last week, however, moments before taking off on vacation, I jumped on Hoopla (an app that makes digital copies of books, comics, music, movies and more available as part of your library membership) and grabbed the first six volumes of Berserk. I only managed to read two, one on the flight there and one on the flight back, but I thoroughly enjoyed them and will continue to read the series as far as it goes.
- Becoming a Princess Knight and Working at a Yuri Brothel
- Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs
- Kingdom of Z

Aspirations for the week!
I’m getting my swollen elbow checked out today, but it didn’t make typing up this post any more difficult so that may not be too much of an issue. Maybe, after a couple of hours, I won’t feel the same, but so far so good. Other than that, I have a bunch of shows to catch up on including the season finales from Chained Soldier and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. I also have an episode of Solo Leveling to watch and then there are those other shows that I’m planning on watching, although I have lots of time for most of them. I’m also planning on doing a post on the coming Spring 2024 season, outlining what I’m watching, why, and how I think it’ll go. Should be fun!
As well as that, I am going to continue to work on my writing. Even if I can only manage a couple of hundred words a day, it’s more than nothing, and I’m sure it’ll build up again. Plus, the day job should be fairly calm for another week. Anyhow, thanks for reading.

How fun! Glad you had a good time with your family. We all need those breaks from reality. I hope your elbow gets better. I’ve had shoulder surgery in the past, so I know how annoying it is to have your arm not working at full capacity.
Thanks. It was nice to get away, but also nice to come home and settle back into the routine.
I don’t think it’s anything too serious, even though it hurts at the moment. It always seems to be something stopping me from hitting the treadmill hard!
It must be elbow week. I hurt mine last fall working on a stupid honeysuckle bush in my back hard. This spring, I helped my son do some plumbing, and now I only have partial use. Like you, I can type — but today, I had to some highly repetitive programming, and I feel it.
I’ll need to buck my family’s standard operating procedure and go to the doctor _before_ it stops working entirely.
Glad you and your family had fun at Disney! Last time I was there was about 25 years ago. We did some planning, but not enough. Glad you learned that lesson before going to the parks!
Gushing Over Magical Girls shocked me. Not for its NSFW content, which was refreshingly on topic for an anime. But because of of well-thought out it is. I mean, there’s a plot, it developed themes, and it had a heck of a sympathetic main character.
I hope your elbow’s nothing serious, and I hope you can get back to writing this week! Good luck!
Luckily, I already had a check up scheduled so was able to go “can you look at my elbow too!” Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious, but they’ve asked to run some tests. I too tend not to visit until it’s absolutely essential which is something I need to get over too.
Disney was a blast, but so tiring. We ended up zigzagging all over the parks as we chased the lightning lanes. It was worth it, but by the end of the day, there was nothing else but bed waiting for us!
I’m eight episodes into Gushing Over Magical Girls and I hear you. The fan service is to be expected and it’s appropriate, but the story is really engaging. I’m loving Utena too, she’s a fascinating character.
Thanks. Hope you get over your injury too.
