Author Journey (September 18, 2023)

Last week, I set myself some goals for the first time in four weeks with the hopes of getting back into the swing of things. It was optimistic of me, but I think it helped in a way…
Author Journey (September 18, 2023)
I was expecting the day job to calm down a little now that the monthly report was all done… I should have known better. The first half of the week saw a marked increase in the demand from the day job and most of it was looking into issues that others had created. Oh well. Once that was done, I looked at taking on the goals that I set last week. Looking back, I might have tried to do too much too soon. I could have certainly eased into things with only a couple of targets. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but sadly, it’s also completely useless.
The Weekly Recap!
Anime Goal – 3 Episodes
My main goal was to catch up on the episode posts for Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation and Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. Originally, I had planned on rewatching two Mushoku Tensei episodes and then watching the latest Zom 100. Well, it turned out I didn’t need to rewatch them as it was pretty fresh when I scanned the screencaps. I did watch Zom 100 and the next Mushoku Tensei. So, it was only two episodes in the end, but I’ll take that.
Manga Goal – 3 Volumes
I still have a pile of books to get through, however, rather than being three books smaller it’s only two. Again, this was due to the busy week from the day job and all the basement recovering fun. Again, that’s a fine return. Hopefully, I can increase in the future.
Posting Goal – 7 Post
Thanks to not needing to rewatch a couple of episodes, I was able to fit in more posts. It was nice to catch up on a few things and it means that I’m almost ready to start watching the episodes of Mushoku Tensei and Zom 100 as they air (if they air… looking at you Zom 100). My total for the week was ten posts.
Writing Goal – 3,500 Words
This just didn’t happen. Even with a smaller daily target of 500 words, I couldn’t find any time to really get into it. Maybe, I should try dropping it to a very manageable target and working up from there.
Drawing Goal – 1 Sketch
Crazy busy = no drawing time…

Aspirations for the Week!
One thing that’s been on my mind this week was exactly how I’m going to do things on this site in the future. I don’t think I’ll make any more changes until the New Year, but I’m definitely thinking about my options. It’s tough because I want to keep reviewing manga, I want to visit older shows that I never got around to watching, and I want to keep up with newer shows episodically. I feel like having the seasonal side of things gives me a stopping point so that I’m not scheduling posts into the distant future, although it requires consistent work. I’m not sure what the answer is but at least I have some time to think about it.
If I can get my writing going again, I think that’ll help ease things and might help me see exactly what I want to do. I certainly don’t want to increase the number of weekly posts too much if at all. However, there’s still so much I want to do. As I said, it’s going to take some thinking.
Watching Anime
Looking at the season episodes that are available, there are three that I can catch up on so that’s what I’m going to go with. I’m keeping it simple even though I didn’t manage that many last week…
Goal: 3 Episodes
Reading Manga
I’m going to stick with three again as that would keep a nice buffer going. Admittedly, I already have a pretty good buffer with my manga posts, but I’d like to keep it that way while trying to be consistent with the numbers.
Goal: 3 Books
Posts Scheduled
This was the only target I achieved last week and despite that, I’m going to keep it the same. Seven is a good number when you’re posting seven a week and I’ve still got an extra Mushoku Tensei episode to catch up on.
Goal: 7 Posts
Writing
I’m going to try to make this really easy and set myself a target of two hundred words a day, Monday to Friday. That’ll just be one thousand words total, but I need to start achieving things here and this should be easy enough for me to fit into my schedule.
Goal: 1,000 words.
Artwork Completed
Again, I’m leaving this at one sketch and will just hope that I have the time to fit it in. It’s definitely still the last on the priority list so I’ll do what can.
Goal: 1 Sketch

Final Thoughts
So, there’s been a lot going on as always, but nothing new and sinister has come to light. We got some news with the basement this week which will require some big investments, but it will be covered by the insurance as their experts have told us to replace them. Other than that, it’s hopefully, going to be a quieter week at the day job which will mean the work stays in the day. I’ve also got something special planned for October that I am putting the finishing touches to. That’ll be something to watch for in a couple of weeks. Anyhow, as always, thanks for reading.

“However, there’s still so much I want to do.”
That’s the core dilemma, isn’t it? There’s just so much that we want to do, and nowhere near enough time to do it. But I think you’re on the right track with these posts. You set goals, measure performance, then learn from experience.
I hope you can keep reviewing current series, because I like reading your posts. But I’ll completely get it if you need to divert energies. My wife’s constantly trying to get me to change my work mix to de-emphasize anime blogging. She might be right, but the work fits better into small opens in my calendar, so I’d hate to give them up. And I’ve kept up with posting each day for so long I’d hate to bail now!
“but it will be covered by the insurance as their experts have told us to replace them. ”
That’s great news! Glad to hear that!
That’s the truth. Just missing a couple of seasons has left me so far behind the current state of affairs that I can’t see me stopping covering seasonal anime. I need to find a slightly different format to make the reviews easier to write. I might cut a section or two.
And yeah, it’s not the same skill as writing fiction. I can see it being helpful with blurb writing though.
And finally. The whole thing has been a nightmare and still will be for some time to come, though it’s nice to have one less thing to worry about.
