Bastard‼ Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy (Episode 12) – Life or Death
What happened?
After casting Megadeath on Metallicana, Dark Schneider rushes to face Arshes Nei, but then she casts another spell – Def Leppard which consumes all nearby magic. Dark Schneider is left to face Arshes Nei with just his hands as weapons. Then, a red flame comes flying through the sky. It’s Efreet the demon who resides in the Fire Sword. He has come to aid his master, Dark Schneider. Now, it’s Fire Sword against Lightning Sword. Who will win?
After a couple of exchanges, Efreet takes over and grabs the Lightning Sword. He drags it into Def Leppard which consumes them both before it destroys itself. Arshes Nei rushes at Dark Schneider attacking with her razor-sharp claws. It looks like Dark Schneider has been defeated, but then he gets up. How could he have survived that attack? Gara believes that his magic returned in time to restore his protective shield. But will that be enough to save him?
Arshes Nei and Dark Schneider begin incanting at the exact same moment, both casting the same spell. It could be the end of both of them if they’re not careful. Then, at the last second Dark Schneider hesitates. He raised Arshes Nei as if she were his own child. She did not hesitate. Her attack struck a fraction of a second sooner with a modicum more power, but it was enough to send Dark Schneider crashing into the castle walls. Yoko and Sheila could only watch in horror. But, has Dark Schneider really been defeated?

What did you think?
Do you know what I absolutely hate about the fights in this episode? Well, there are several things. Firstly, there’s a lot of standing around while someone else explains what is happening in the fight. Then, we see it happening, but worry not, because someone else is about to explain what just happened. Maybe even several people including the fighters. This battle did not flow and I can’t stand the way Gara narrated the fight, explaining what we were seeing. It’s not like he gave us any privileged insight. He described what happened and nothing more. It’s utterly infuriating.
I will admit that I laughed when Arshes Nei cast Def Leppard as they are one of my all-time favourite bands, but even that couldn’t come close to saving the action. So, there’s one more episode in the first part of this season. Of course, it’s going to end with the premonition that Grandma saw in her crystal ball a couple of episodes ago. Dark Schneider will lose, but it will be to save Arshes Nei when he realises she has the Blue Nail. That will be the moment that I stop with the episode reviews. I may continue to watch it as it’s fairly mindless entertainment that I can easily follow while running on the treadmill, but I just can’t keep writing about how bad this is. It’s no fun for me, and I’m sure it’s no fun for you!
