Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation (Episode 14) – Wedding Reception
Rudeus and Sylphie are throwing a party to officially announce their marriage and they’re inviting all of their friends. Of course, Rudeus is worried that no one will show up. Sylphie, however, doesn’t share his worry.
Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation (Episode 14) – Wedding Reception
What happened?
After preparing a list of people to invite which included the Princess, Nanahoshi, and the Demon Lord, Badigadi. Sylphie is keen to invite Elinalise because she has something she wants to ask her, which instantly interests Rudeus. What could she possibly want to know from her? Anyhow, with the list done, it’s time to go out and buy the things they need, including some new clothes for Rudeus. Sylphie picks out some items for him to try, but they end up going for something similar to what he has made from rats from the Demon Continent. To Rudeus’ surprise, everyone shows up to the party. Well, everyone but Badigadi, but everyone assures him, he’ll be fashionable late. He is, showing up in the middle of Rudeus’ speech, but his appearance somewhat calms Rudeus.
During the party, everyone seems to be getting along. Nanahoshi is delighted to see that Rudeus has made potato chips. She’s also keen to visit again so that she can use their bath. Then, as Elinalise offers her wishes for the couple she breaks down, crying. Sylphie asks her if she is her grandmother since she sounds like the person her father described who went adventuring with Paul. She is, although she needs some time alone. After a while, Sylphie goes to see her. That gives Princess Ariel a chance to ask something of Rudeus. She wants him to duel with Luke – no magic. They want to ensure that he can protect Sylphie. Rudeus doesn’t want to but obliges and then quickly defeats Luke. Ariel then asks that he convince her not to follow her on her quest to take the throne or die trying. He agrees, although he thinks he’ll end up helping her at some point.
What did you think?
When I saw the title of this episode, I was a little apprehensive. After the first part of this season which was a step down from the first season in my mind, I had hoped we would be done with the slice-of-life elements of the show… for a while, at least. I have such fond memories of the first season with Ghislaine, Eris, and Ruijerd. Exploring the Demon Continent and then the journey home was amazing. Sticking Rudeus in a school for most of season two feels like a big waste of time. Yes, the world-building has been interesting and Sylphie is nice, but it’s not as good. I still like it, but so much happened in the first season that I could talk about whereas the second season, so far, hasn’t delivered the same sort of impact.
Also, this was the first episode to show the new OP and boy was that full of spoilers. I say this as an anime-only follower at this point and even I could see so many things that will no doubt come to be in this season. I hate it when they do that. I hate spoilers in general and will mute social media accounts for revealing things so soon after an episode airs or a book is released, so to get it in the show is unforgivable. Guess, I’ll be skipping the OP going forward. And, one other thing. I checked the message boards after the episode and was surprised to see so many people saying that Elinalise being Sylphie’s grandmother was a huge shock… Did they not remember the necklace that Rudeus had that stopped Elinalise from making a move on him? There was obviously a connection between them. Anyhow, hopefully, this season will pick up soon (and based on the OP, it’s only a matter of time.)

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I didn’t really “feel” this episode. I am craving more than the academic life, and now domesticated life. I miss the actual adventuring. When the heck is that coming back? Don’t get me wrong. It’s sweet that Rudeus and Sylphie are in love and have found a place with each other, but that isn’t what roped me into the show in the first place. You know?
I know exactly what you are talking about. That was my main issue with the first part of this season. I came for the adventure and sadly that’s been missing for a while now. I’m happy for them too, but this isn’t what hooked me. The adventure through the Demon Continent with Eris and Ruijerd is sorely missed.
That guy should have just died after getting hit by a truck and stayed dead. He should have just stayed dead.
That’s an understandable way of looking at things. While I won’t defend his character – he wasn’t exactly a shining example of humanity, he also had some very bad things done to him. I can see how that had an impact on his mental state, and at the end, he died trying to save someone. He failed, but he tried.
