Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation (Episode 20) – Into the Labyrinth
Rudeus and Elinalise quickly found Paul’s party. As they prepared for the next labyrinth raid, Rudeus learned that Roxy went missing on their last visit and there’s no way of knowing if she’s still alive!
Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation (Episode 20) – Into the Labyrinth
What happened?
Rudeus and Elinalise found Geese in the Adventurer’s Guild. He was shocked by how much Rudeus had grown and how Elinalise looked exactly the same. Anyhow, he took them to see Paul but was keen to tell them that he wasn’t doing so well, so they should probably not start any fights like last time… They found Paul slumped on a table, no doubt exhausted and unsure of what to do next. He was delighted to see Rudeus and amazed to discover that Rudeus was married and expecting a child. Then, he turned his attention to Elinalise and instantly apologised. Despite her assertion that she would never forgive him, she could see how much he had been through and decided to let it go. The fact that her granddaughter was married to his son was probably not lost on her.
Paul brought them up to speed on the labyrinth they were facing and how someone who looked like Zenith had been seen going in with another group of adventurers six years ago and never came out. There’s no guarantee that she’s alive or even in there anymore, but it’s all they have to go on. When Paul explained that the labyrinth was the teleportation labyrinth, Rudeus instantly grabbed his backpack and pulled out a book that he borrowed from the school. It was written by someone who had defeated the labyrinth and included everything they needed. Geese was over the moon and quickly went about reading all about it.
The other members of the party returned so they began to plan the next trip. However, Roxy was not there. Rudeus learned that she stepped on a teleportation circle during their last visit and vanished. They didn’t know where she went, but there were mixed beliefs about how she might be doing. Elinalise comforted Rudeus who was keen to get to it. Inside the labyrinth, Paul found his energy revived. Maybe it was being able to show off to his son, maybe it was the thrill of adventure. Either way, Elinalise quickly told him to stop showing off. She was practically his mother-in-law now, after all! Then, Rudeus noticed something odd. Condensation was forming on a nearby wall. Could that be Roxy’s doing?
What did you think?
Yes! I love a good dungeon raid and the fact that this one had the added terror of teleportation circles made it that much more exciting, especially given everyone’s experiences with teleportation. I loved how happy Paul seemed to have been reunited with his son. It was a marked contrast to last time when it was Rudeus who was trying to show off. It was also telling that Elinalise could see how bad Paul had had it and quickly changed her stance on forgiveness. I liked how she noticed that Rudeus was clearly troubled by the news about Roxy and was quick to reassure him. She’s definitely the mother of the group. And, she can kick ass too!
I couldn’t get over how small and young Roxy looked this time around. I never got that impression when we saw her travelling with Elinalise and Talhand, but seeing her opposite Rudeus was fairly shocking. Remember when she used to tower over him? Anyhow, all this reminiscing had me looking back at episode thirteen from season one. Elinalise was teasing Roxy for being a virgin when Roxy replied with the following statement – “One day, a tall, slim, young man who’s manly but still makes childish expressions will save me by chance in the depths of a labyrinth. Then, we’ll team up, and as we work together, love will bloom between us. By the time we escaped the labyrinth…” Elinalise laughed that off as I’m sure many others did, myself included, but who’s laughing now? I guess we’ve just got to wait and see what happens now!

If this weren’t anime, I’d really worry about how problematic this will be for his marriage to Sylphie. But it will be a harem anime and in the end they’ll trot out how it is customary in some groups to have multiple wives.
For some reason, Paul didn’t get that option.
Well, technically he did. He lives with Zenith and Lilya, and has children with them both. Judging by the conversation Paul and Lilya has with Rudeus, it felt like they were still an item, along with Zenith.
That said, it’s going to be interesting to see how they play this. I can’t imagine Sylphie will be too happy to discover that he’s come back with another girl while she’s been carrying his child, whether it’s normal or not in this world.
