Things seem to be going well for Dead End. However, they take on a job that two other parties have signed up for and things take a horrific turn. Will they be able to shake off this setback or spiral into darkness?
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Episode 11) – Children and Warriors
After a number of successful quests, Dead End’s latest quest takes them to the petrified forest to investigate a mysterious monster. However, when they get there, they discover that two other parties have signed on for the same job. One party is the group of rookies they met earlier. Everyone seems overly confident, but Ruijerd demands that they hang back and make sure the young adventurers are safe.
They get cornered by several large monsters. Ruijerd is ready to rush in when Rudeus tells him to wait. He wants to make sure they get maximum impact by swooping in at the last second. Unfortunately, that second was a moment ago… One of the adventurers is ripped in two and flung through the air. Ruijerd and Eris leap into action and slay the monsters. Then, Ruijerd turns his attention to Rudeus, blaming him for what happened. One of the surviving adventurers thanks them for saving them, but it was his fault his friend died and not Rudeus’.
Screams fill the air, forcing them to race towards the monster. Maybe, they can save the third party. They are too late, but they do find the monster, which they slay with some impressive fighting skills. When they return to the city, another adventurer has discovered their scheme and plans on extorting money out of them. Rudeus is ready to kill him to protect Eris, however, Ruijerd empties a bottle of water over his head, revealing his true identity. He threatens the adventurer and then leaves.
Rudeus and Eris catch up with Ruijerd outside the city and have a heart to heart. Ruijerd has a new respect for Rudeus after he sensed what he was going to do to protect Eris. He also realised how much Rudeus was dealing with. Going forward they would discuss matters as a party. It is their only hope of surviving.
What did you think?
This episode ended with a “See you in season two” image and I love those images. It’s always nice to get to the end of a series, especially one you’ve been enjoying and know that it will continue. This episode was fantastic. So much tension and drama, plus some incredible action. Eris’ training with the sword has proven to be incredibly useful and Ruijerd is unstoppable.
I’ll admit that I started this series to see what everyone was getting upset about, but I have loved every minute of it. Sure, Rudeus is not the standard hero that you might expect from an isekai, but his story is fascinating and I love how he is slowly redeeming himself. It’s far more believable than a quick transformation. Bring on season two.
What have you learnt?
While they did win in the petrified forest, it was the first real setback for Rudeus. There had been minor ones, but his decision cost someone their life. He had been focused on trying to achieve too much at once and not what really mattered. It’s a tough lesson, but I think they’ve come away stronger. Before that point, Rudeus wouldn’t have considered killing someone.
I also think I need to mention Eris who has gone from annoying spoilt brat to unstoppable fighting machine. Her fighting skills are incredible and I can’t wait to see what she learns from Ruijerd. The final montage as the ending played out was a great way to end a season, getting us ready for the next one which starts tomorrow!
