Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation (Episode 12) – I Want to Tell You
Rudeus has finally realised who Fitz really is, but is that the end of his problems? How will Princess Ariel react when she finds out what happened? Could a new ally come from an unlikely source?
Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation (Episode 12) – I Want to Tell You
What did you watch?
This post is coming a little bit after the episode aired, but I can confirm I saw it as soon as it dropped and managed to avoid all spoilers. I don’t think there’s really too much to be spoiled here, but it was a fitting conclusion to the first part of Season Two. I will admit there was a moment where I gasped, even though I knew they wouldn’t do that to Rudeus twice. I mean, they might, but not this time anyhow. Well, let’s dive in.
What happened?
Sylphie and Rudeus shared some memories of their time together as children. She even told him about how she attacked Paul when she discovered he’d sent Rudeus away. Of course, she didn’t beat him, but instead, she decided to learn manners and decorum from Lilya in the hopes that one day they would be reunited. However, when the day arrived and Sylphie learned that Rudeus was coming to Ranoa she was so excited but also worried that he might have forgotten about her.
Rudeus couldn’t believe it had taken him a year to work out who she really was. He showed her the necklace she gave him as proof that he had not forgotten about her. Now, down to business… Or not as the case may be. Rudeus’ affliction was still there and while it would come and go, it was no way to move their relationship forward. They returned to Ranoa where Sylphie reported back to Princess Ariel and Luke. Surprisingly, Luke was the one to come out in Rudeus’ defence, showing that the girls had no idea what they were talking about.
He ran off and returned with a vial of a potent aphrodisiac, the same one Rudeus bought back when he was tutoring Eris and Ghislaine. Anyhow, they had a drink, took the aphrodisiac and waited. They didn’t have to wait long, however, as Rudeus felt the urge and pretty much pounced on her. The next morning, Rudeus woke in his bed alone and recalled the night before. He assumed Sylphie was on duty with the Princess, but the thought that she would abandon him appeared. Thankfully, she returned to a much relieved Rudues. Later, he pledged to back up Princess Ariel and also to marry Sylphie.
What did you think?
When Rudeus woke alone. I had a moment where I thought they would do it to him again. He had that same thought a moment later and I had to watch as he almost collapsed under the strain. Thankfully, Sylphie returned and that also proved that Rudeus had recovered from his problems with Little Rudeus. I was surprised to see Luke step in like that, but this is definitely something that the guys are going to back each other up with. Anyhow, it was a very good ending to a good season. It wasn’t as good as the first one, not even close, but hopefully now, we can leave the school and get back to a proper adventure.
What was your favourite moment?
The moment that Ariel kept pushing Rudeus to tell them what his plans were with Sylphie was hilarious. Sometimes, he can be so clueless. However, when he said he would marry her, there were some amazing reactions. My favourite has to be Luke’s reaction where he leant to one side and made this hilarious face. Of course, Sylphie’s reactions were just as good, but Luke’s is the one that made me laugh the most. It was nice to end on a nice note.
Who was the most impactful character?
Well, it has to be Luke. The Princess was trying to blame Sylphie’s lack of womanly charms for the issue, but Luke knew that wasn’t the problem, even with his family’s history with buxom women. He knew that there was nothing Sylphie could do in that department and since Rudeus liked her it wasn’t an issue. The problem also wasn’t Rudeus’ intentions. He knew how to fix it and was prepared to give them the aphrodisiac even given its considerable value. Luke is the bro that Rudeus never knew he had!
Was there any conflict?
The obvious source of conflict was from Rudeus and his inability to awaken Little Rudeus. I do feel sorry for him that he acts like he’s a massive letdown when he is unable to get things going. It would appear that Luke needs to have a little chat with him in case something like this happens again.
What have you learned?
I liked the idea that the person who seems to have zero respect for a character can suddenly gain an understanding of something that changes their perception. When Luke discovered that Rudeus came to the university to cure his problem, he saw Rudeus in a new light. He didn’t respect him any more or less, but it showed him why they had butted heads. It’s like a lesser version of the enemies to allies trope and I prefer this one. It makes more sense than someone you were just mortal enemies with suddenly helping you.
