Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Episode 4) – Emergency Family Meeting
Zenith is pregnant and that makes Paul and Rudeua happy. However, Lilia, the maid, is also pregnant and Paul is probably the father! Rudeus is going to have to think quickly if he’s going to keep his new family together.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (Episode 4) – Emergency Family Meeting
What happened?
Paul and Zenith have been trying for another baby for some time now and it wasn’t looking good for a while, but they finally managed to conceive a second child. Everyone is delighted, however, not long after, Lilia announces that she too is pregnant. Who could possibly be the father? They all ask the question but I’m pretty certain they already know. Paul instantly announces that it’s probably him. Zenith asks what Lilia will do and is surprised to hear that she will assist Zenith and then return home with her newborn, which is a month away.
Rudeus has an idea as to how that will go and he doesn’t like the outcome. He realises that Paul has helped him in the past, but he’s going to have to throw him under the bus if he’s to salvage this situation. He puts on the charm and manages to convince Zenith to let Lilia stay, especially as both children with be his siblings.
Rudeus is struggling to advance his studies when he gets a letter from Roxy reminding him to attend a magic university. It’s a great idea, but he doesn’t want to leave Sylph behind. Rudeus asks Paul to pay for both of them to attend and when he says no, he asks him to find him a job so that he can pay. Paul agrees.
What did you think?
Paul, you dirty dog! This episode had some hilarious moments, but it also showed us how Rudeus has grown. Maybe, he’s always had a caring side, but it’s been hidden so as to protect himself. The way he managed to convince Zenith to let Lilia stay was amazing. Of course, we also learnt that Paul has a history with Lilia and it’s not entirely pleasant. Basically, Paul is hopeless, but his inappropriate father-son conversations are still funny.
Of course, there was another moment that will forever be etched into my memory and that is the arrival of Ghislaine. Seriously, she is spectacular and I think I must have had the same look as Rudeus when he saw her climb out of the carriage. It did lead to some questionable parenting choices from Paul as he knocked Rudeus out so that he could take his job with Ghislaine and leave Sylph at home.
What have you learnt?
I think this series uses its opening song in a variety of amazing ways. This time it played as everyone stared at the table after Lilia and Paul’s confession. It’s a great way to build the tension and squeeze every moment out of each episode. I enjoy a good montage of animation segments as much as the next person, but this feels like a better use of that time and it also means that there’s no chance of spoiler moments that seem to happen all too often in OPs.
The other thing that I should probably talk about is Ghislaine. I have no real reason to, but I think it’s in everyone’s interest. Better yet, let’s just look at her…

The beginning of this episode is one of my favourite moments in the season. Such a tense situation, but Rudeus handled it perfectly.
Yeah. It was a moment for him to shine. Paul sat in the other room getting yelled at every time he tried to say something was hilarious too. Wonder if Zenith knew about their history before they hired her as the maid.
Good point, I never thought about that. Maybe she did, but I’d lean more towards the idea that she didn’t know their full history…
Although it seems like Paul might have history with everyone…
