Friday Fives (Wonder Egg Priority) – Five Creepy Characters
This show has some pretty dark moments and that is thanks to disturbing subject matter. However, you can’t discount the wonderfully creepy characters. The designs just make them that much more sinister!
Friday Fives (Wonder Egg Priority) – Five Creepy Characters
I really enjoyed Wonder Egg Priority right up until the end when it went in a direction I wasn’t expecting and believe was the wrong way to take the show. Anyhow, there was a lot that it got right and the sinister-looking characters that were effectively the boss of the Wonder Egg dreams. They were already horrible characters given the nature of their relationships to the person the heroes were trying to save. Each of them was effectively responsible for the Wonder Egg girl committing suicide in a parallel world. As you can imagine they were not nice people. Then, when you consider the designs which I think loosely resembled the characters from Yellow Submarine which is fairly trippy to begin with, they took things to another level. For the record, I hate all of these characters, but that was the point, so let’s take a look at them. Disturbing themes will be discussed…
5. The Bug Girls (Episodes 10, 11, and 12)
I’m starting things off with the three girls that appeared before Momoe, Rika, and Ai after they saved the person they were trying to save. Something rejected their interference and then these girls appeared. Each wore a school uniform and looked fairly normal except that their heads were giant insects. They were strong and horrendously brutal, subjecting each girl to horrific things. Ai was saved by herself from an alternate reality which I can assume is the only reason she wants to fight on. Momoe and Rika were left traumatised. These girls were so creepy, especially when they flew and their bodies just dangled beneath them…
4. The Cult Leader (Episode 7)
This episode really pushes Rika to the edge of her sanity as she tries to deal with her own family life as well as the girl she’s trying to save from her Wonder Killer. One of the most disturbing elements of this one is that despite her Wonder Killer being a cult leader that took everything from her family and eventually her life, she still doesn’t blame him. That’s really messed up, but that’s how cults work. They mentally abuse their targets until they begin to believe that they are trying to save them. There isn’t a pit deep enough to throw these sorts of people in my opinion and that goes doubly for those using religion to do so. Anyhow, this character has a giant melon on top of his head and eight long arms that appear to be hypodermic needles. The scariest thing is he almost breaks Rika with his words. Truly terrifying.
3. Her Coach (Episode 2)
Ai meets Minami in her Wonder Egg dream and discovers that she was driven to suicide by her coach who put ever-mounting pressure on her to perform and maintain a perfect athletic physique. Given how her Wonder Killer behaved it’s not unreasonable to assume that Minami was subject to physical and emotional abuse at the hands of someone that should have been looking after her well-being. The design of the Wonder Killer was so creepy. She had multiple sets of arms, a massive toothy grin and a pair of giant boobs that resembled painted missiles. You have to wonder how they come up with these designs sometimes!
2. Her Kendo Club Advisor (Episode 10)
Momoe’s final Wonder Egg introduced her to Kaoru Kurita. Kaoru reveals that he likes Momoe which is upsetting for Momoe because she only seems to attract girls. However, Kaoru reveals that they were a boy inside and were intent on making the transition to becoming a boy. Kaoru had told the Kendo Club Advisor of his situation which was when he raped Kaoru and got them pregnant. The Wonder Killer’s design was truly horrific as it trapped Kaoru inside a heart-shaped bubble on top of its head. Its nose had a single eye at the end that seemed to be crying pink tears. Horrible character and an even more disturbing design.
1. Her Father’s Boss (Episode 4)
This was the first time we met Momoe Sawaki. She was talking with Miwa on a train who was hiding from the person responsible for driving her to suicide. He had sexually assaulted her over and over again and when she finally spoke out about it he fired her father. Off the back of that, her mother blamed her for their situation and wondered why she couldn’t just put up with it. Basically, this guy was the worst possible scum, but her mother really wasn’t much better. As much as I believe the boss to be responsible for the situation, her mother could have just as likely been the Wonder Killer. Putting that much pressure on Miwa must have made her life unbearable and there would have seemed to be no way out. That said, if it was my daughter, I would gladly lose my job to protect her. Anyhow, this character design was horrendously creepy with its long arms and giant safety pins. Just looking at him, gives me chills.
Final Thoughts
I wasn’t sure how I would approach a Friday Fives post for Wonder Egg Priority and now that I’ve done it, I almost feel like I should have just let this one go. This wasn’t exactly a nice post to write because of the subject matter, however, I feel like it is something that needs to be written. This is an anime and as such everything is sensationalized, but these characters sadly are very real and appear too often in the real world. Do not give in to these people. Don’t let them win. Help is always available. It’s important to remember that most people are not like this and would help you at a moment’s notice.
Anyhow, this was quite a heavy post. Next week, I’ll be sure to look at something a little more lighthearted to balance things out. Have you seen Wonder Egg Priority? If so, which character did you find the most disturbing? Thanks for reading.

After seeing those images and hearing a bit of the plot, I’m not sure I want to watch. Gruesome allegory.
Yeah. It’s not an overly happy tale. Very interesting, but you’ve got to be in the mood, plus the ending really didn’t do it justice.
