Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku (Volume 5) – What We Know So Far!
What happened?
The gate to Horai opened and left Sagiri, Yuzuriha, and Senta staring in disbelief at the splendour within. Then, there was a sudden flash of energy and Hoko’s head flew into the air. Yuzuriha was the first to react, fleeing with all her might. However, she didn’t get far. Lord Tensen caught her and explained the situation. There was no Elixir of Life. He was not a god. The locals had been told the stories to keep them all in line. Whereas every human that made it to the island was merely more test subjects for their experimentations.
Yuzuriha escaped from his hold and decapitated him, however, it was nothing to him. He was excited by the prospect that Yuzuriha could use and even sense Tao. She told him it was called Chi where she came from, but that just seemed to fascinate him more. He would use her for some special experiments. Sagiri and Senta, however, would be used to make more Tao. Well, that was what he thought. Sagiri attacked and it caught him out. Was it an accident? He wasn’t sure, but Sagiri learnt a lot. She knew just how and where to cut to bring him down.
After an insane fight, they defeated Lord Tensen. Well, almost. A bizarre creature grew up from the remains. It was as if two giants stood before them, their heads joined together. Senta stepped before Yuzuriha and was infected with the bloom which took hold almost instantly. That was when Shion appeared and told them to remove the flowers before they could root. Sagiri told him how to defeat this Lord Tensen, but it was Senta’s knowledge of plants that helped them land the killer blow. Unfortunately, that would be Senta’s last contribution. Yuzuriha held him as he passed.
What did you think?
Amazing. The fight between Sagiri, Yuzuriha, Senta and Lord Tensen was insane. It just kept going and going and going. Yuzuriha is very quickly becoming one of my favourite characters. I really hope nothing happens to her, but I get the feeling that anything can happen in this series so I’m starting to make preparations for disappointment. I loved the way that when Lord Tensen took on the plant form, they used the difference between animal and plant life to explain where the centre of the being was.
I love the way they’ve weaved the elements into this story too, using them to explain why different people offer different abilities and how they can hurt specific elements. We also got to see Gabimaru again, although he’s lost his memories and given what Yuzuriha was speculating about Gabimaru’s memories being fabricated by the chief this could get really interesting. Providing he doesn’t have a wife, it opens up the way for Sagiri and Gabimaru to get together, however, I feel like Gabimaru won’t make it out of this series either. I can see him sacrificing himself, probably to save Sagiri.
Then, we got to see more Yamada Asaemon and ninjas from Gabimaru’s clan heading to the island. The ninjas have been given one directive and that is to kill Gabimaru. The most obvious question is why? What does Gabimaru know that makes him such a threat?
