Namito Taira planned on making the most of his first year of high school. On his first day, he noticed that he was sitting next to a girl and figured that was a good start. Well, that was until she glared at him!

What happened?

Taira tried to talk to her but was immediately knocked back by a serious look and a dismissive tone. She may have looked cute for a moment, but the rest of the time, she gave off the vibe of a delinquent. Youko Furi had blonde hair and wasn’t wearing a school blazer. Then, there was the scowl. Furi looked like she was trying to push him to the ground and steal his lunch money without even touching him. What a start to the year! He could only hope she would skip school frequently.

Youko Furi started her first day at high school tired from looking after her siblings while her mother worked. She was understandably irritable, so when this cute guy sat beside her, she did her best to respond to his questions and look attentive. She may not have nailed what she was going for, but she felt like it wasn’t going too bad. If only there was a way they could spend even more time together. Furi was determined to be by his side as much as possible.

What did you think?

I love misunderstandings in stories. It fascinates me to see how people can see the same thing and interpret it differently. So, you’d imagine that this story would be completely my thing. Almost! I’ve started several series like this one such as Tomo-chan is a Boy or Hitomi-chan is Shy with Strangers. As you might imagine, there are a lot of similarities between them too, so the differentiating factors come down to the characters, which they should. Now, there are several likeable characters in this one. Furi for one is great. I love her friend Maeda Kaho who is always crying and the otaku Okuta Takuo (both of his names are anagrams of otaku!).

However, my main problem is with Namito Taira. He is completely boring and the lack of awareness is on another level altogether. Even the teacher has spotted that Furi likes him and is going out of her way to keep them together. As the story goes on, I’m sure he’ll develop some character, but it doesn’t happen in the first volume.

Quite frankly, I’d be happy to see Furi and Kaho hanging out more, especially if they are going to be wearing maid costumes and doing other such ridiculous things. Kudos to Okuta for putting Furi onto that one!
