Koito is busy making preparations for a visitor from Osaka and that has piqued Elda’s interest. It couldn’t be… could it? Yes, it was. The visitor was Yord, another elf summoned from another world and Elda’s rival!

Otaku Elf (Volume 2) – From Warlords to Wargames!

What happened?

Yord is actually one year older than Elda at six hundred and twenty-two despite her smaller size and childish demeanour. And as her elder, she has constantly been trying to defeat her. Well, they’ve been playing tic-tac-toe and sending each other puns for centuries. Anyhow, Yord has come to visit Elda, but it’s all just a ruse so that she can go to a concert.

After Yord leaves, Elda catches a cold. Elven colds are different from human ones in that they can’t be caught or spread by anyone other than an elf. Thanks, Yord! During this trying time, Elda uses her fairy to contact Koito, asking her to bring her drinks, rub her back, and do anything else she wants. Turns out, she’s just a little lonely.

Koito is excited about a coming event which only happens once every fifty years. They will travel to the tallest building in Tokyo, currently, the Skytree which has surpassed Tokyo Tower by three hundred metres. There they will offer prayers to Mount Fuji. Of course, Elda is also scared of heights so Koito goes all the way to the shrine with her.

What did you think?

I actually enjoyed the second book more than the first. Yet again there were a lot of little snippets of information about historical people and events. It was a really nice way to include a bit of history. Of course, Elda and Koito continue to be a lot of fun as their relationship continues to grow. It’s a very slow story with very little in the way of continuous story development but that’s fine. It works because the characters are believable despite one of them being a six-hundred-year-old elf from another world.

I don’t really have much more to say that I didn’t say in the review of the first book. Slice-of-life isn’t a genre I tend to gravitate towards, but this was a nice read and the historical elements added a lot. So, if that’s your thing, you’ll probably really enjoy it. Otherwise, it’s a fairly calm and relaxing read so I doubt it’s going to upset you.
