What happened?
Mobuo’s name is a literal reference to the mobs or NPCs of video games. He doesn’t seem to mind though as he quite likes to remain in the background. One day at the arcade a girl came in and was determined to win a lazy catfish toy from the crane game. Some punks took an interest and started to harass her. Mobuo went to ask them to leave, but before he did Nanora kicked one of them in the face, revealing her panties to all in the process.
She saw that Mobuo noticed her panties with their lazy catfish design on the back and demanded that he help her win prizes. He was about to finish for the day, but she was determined and he did see her panties. Mobuo agreed to help her, showing her how to win and how some games are designed to work. Nanora was delighted and came back the next day and the next day and the next day.
Nanora had Mobuo teaching her how to play fighting games, rail games, dancing games, and racing games. If there was a prize attached to it, she wanted to win it and that meant Mobuo would be dragged along. Then, Mobuo’s childhood friend, Shigure showed up and didn’t seem to want to share Mobuo with Nanora. Of course, they would need to settle it in the arcade!
What did you think?
I spent quite a bit of time in arcades when I was younger. I grew up in a seaside town with lots of arcades so they were one of the highlights. This book would be great for anyone that has spent a similar amount of time in arcades or gaming in general. There are a lot of nostalgic moments and Nanora and Mobuo make a great team to explore them. Of course, there are a lot of panty shots, which isn’t surprising given that Mobuo seeing Nanora’s panties was the thing that set them on this path.
I really enjoyed the way they seemed to inhabit the games they were playing such as the zombie shooter and what were clearly Street Fighter II and Mario Kart, although the differences were probably enough to avoid copyright claims. There really isn’t a big narrative that pulls you through beyond Nanora wanting to win prizes and Mobuo helping her.
The introduction of Shigure at the end of the volume made for some interesting moments and probably helped to make Nanora realise that she might like Mobuo. Anyhow, I really enjoyed this one. It was cute, fun, and raunchy. Throw in all the classic gaming references and you have a winner. I’ll definitely be looking to read more in this series.
