The Otaku Author Journey July 26 2021

Life can hit you where it hurts. However, it can also decide to tap you on the should every fifteen minutes and ask you what that thing is. It knows and it knows you know, but it’s going to make sure to interrupt you all the same!

July 26, 2021

As you may have guessed this week has been a little bit of a bugger. Just when you think you’ve got it all under control something pops up to drive a spanner into the gears and grinds everything to a halt. The Sunday before last week, I had my second COVID vaccine. Great news. That combined with my natural antibodies from having had it back in May means that I am now super immune. Unfortunately, that didn’t stop me from being up all Sunday night with the shivers. Not the start to the week I was hoping for.

As if that wasn’t enough, on Monday, I got a screw embedded in one of my tires and got a flat. I’d had no sleep and was aching all over, but somehow I managed to get the spare on. It was hot and tiring, but I won that round.

The next day, mother nature seemed to take it personally. I had just been to the garage where they were able to repair the tire, which was another win for me. Then, as I got back into my car, the sky turned black. The lights on my dashboard changed to night mode it was that dark. Then, the heavens opened and we were hit with a flash storm.

Nothing to worry about there, I don’t drive a convertible. However, I am having some work done in my back garden and there’s a trench for some pipes… That trench filled with water, which it then channelled back towards the house. I was only aware of the water trickling into my basement when I heard Gus drinking from behind a chair. That’s right! My basement flooded. I had to move all the furniture from one side to the other and try to dry it out.

Otherside Picnic Episode 10 Sorao Toriko Kozakura and Akari Scared

Since then, it’s been a constant barrage of interruptions from contractors. Every time I got going there was something else. I’m just going to put last week down to it being cursed and move on. This week will be better, I’m sure of it… please…

All these distractions, but one of them has been quite beneficial. That is thanks to Gus, my dog. He’s a first-generation Golden Doodle but looks almost entirely like a Golden Retriever. Anyhow, since the back garden is a construction site at the moment, I have to take him out for a walk five to six times a day. We averaged sixteen thousand steps a day, which is 12.2 km. That’s a lot of walking and I’m feeling good because of it.

If you remember from last week’s post, I do a lot of plotting in my head while I’m walking, so this has been doubly productive. Exercise and work. Before I used to have most of my ideas in boring meetings in the corporate world. One time, I came up with the most ridiculous idea and must have looked insane as I sat there grinning to myself. One day, I’ll have to write that. I still have the meeting notes (story outline) somewhere.

Heaven's Lost Property Episode 8 Mikako and Sugata gun haka

I’ve had a couple of slow weeks when it comes to watching anime with just five episodes a week. Luckily, I already have Jujutsu Kaisen, Otherside Picnic, and Heaven’s Lost Property scheduled. All ten of those episodes were for posts for Ecchi Hunter, although I will do a season review here too at a later stage. I even have all of the reviews planned out for the rest of the year, minus the bonus season reviews if I spot a seasonal that I fancy.

At present, I am fully five weeks ahead on my scheduled posts which is a very nice feeling and without all the life nonsense, I should be able to get plenty more work done. I am going to keep chipping away and since I cover five series at a time between here and Ecchi Hunter, if I do one a day, I will continue to push into the future.

Basically, I’m pretty much where I was last week but with some more blog posts scheduled. This week I am determined to read through and edit the first fifty thousand words of my supernatural rom-com and get to work on the final act. There’s lots of action so it should be a fast write. I find that always gets my blood pumping and then my fingers dance across the keyboard faster.

This week is going to be awesome. I can feel it! Anyhow, thanks for reading and stay safe.

    • Yeah, it’s been one of those weeks. Keeping positive for this week though…

    • I can’t even imagine what it would be like not having AC in Texas. Hope you get that sorted. And, yeah, this week will be better.

What did you think?
