Author Journey (February 27, 2023)

I was thinking of a nice way to put it, but this week has been a complete disaster. While I managed to get some work done, things are about to slow down considerably. I’ve only gone and wrecked my knee…
Author Journey (February 27, 2023)
Of all the bones people break, only one percent of cases involve the kneecap. So I guess that makes me special… yay… On top of that, the fracture isn’t actually the part that’s really screwed up. For news on that, I have to wait for some further scans. In the meanwhile, it hurts like hell and I have my right leg in a full splint making it impossible to bend it. Of course, the impact on our daily family life is going to be pretty huge too. It’s all a bit of a mess.
The Weekly Recap!
This week started with a public holiday for the kids, so while I was working there were plenty of distractions and that meant not a lot of my stuff got done. It was business as usual for the day job, which was still out of control with the reporting period running into the fourth week. Then, when I did get a chance to get back to watching the show I was going to focus on Crunchyroll was down. So, I jumped onto Netflix and went with the backup plan.
Amazingly, I managed to watch eight episodes which isn’t bad considering I lost three nights to the incident with my knee. I tried on one, but the pain was so much I couldn’t even focus. So, I fell short of my first goal by a small margin. Not bad, but not what I was going for.
I managed to read both of the manga volumes I had planned as I did that earlier in the week, so I did achieve one goal this week. Things didn’t exactly go to plan after Friday, although the issues with my knee had started on Wednesday. They just seemed to get worse and worse until I could barely walk.
| Tasks | Goal | Completed |
|---|---|---|
| Anime Watched | 10 Episodes | 8 Episodes |
| Manga Read | 2 Books | 2 Books |
| Posts Scheduled | 15 Posts | 12 Posts |
| Chapters Written | 1 Book Outline | 0 Book Outlines |
| Artwork Completed | 1 Character Sheet | 1/2 a Character Sheet |
I didn’t do any work towards the outlining of my series. I had planned some time, but with everything that happened, it just lost out. For the record, I haven’t slept much because it’s almost impossible to find a comfortable position to sleep in. I know, I know. The knee is causing all sorts of issues. Hopefully, they’ll come up with a plan and get it sorted.
I started work on a character sheet for Kira from RIP Tide and managed two images – one full body and one bust. I’m fairly happy with them but can also see some places to adjust and change things. For one, I made her quite beefy in the full body image. She’s supposed to be strong, but I may tone her down a little. For reference see the image below.

Aspirations for the Week!
I basically have no idea how this week will go. Hopefully, I’ll get a couple of medical appointments to look at the x-rays and get some soft tissue scans, but there’s no guarantee when that’ll happen. On one hand, I’m going to be fairly immobile for a while which might be great for watching anime and reading manga, but that’s not how it’ll work having a family that depends on you. Sure, they’ll help, but there are still things they can’t do and I’ll end up doing. It’s just going to take longer.
On top of that, I will continue to work where I can. The reporting period can be a pain and there’s not exactly anyone to cover for me. I’ll tell them I’ll do what I can when I can and the rest of the time, I’ll be resting. It’s not ideal, but they’re not a bad company to work for so I’d rather keep things ticking along. I don’t think it’ll be too much of a problem once I’m sat down at my desk.
Watching Anime
I currently have six full weeks of anime reviews scheduled so I’m not going to worry about this one at all. If I watch some, great. If I don’t, I’m not going to beat myself up.
Goal: 0 Episodes
Reading Manga
Similar to the anime situation except I have nine weeks of manga reviews scheduled. If this isn’t what the buffer is for then I don’t know what it’s for.
Goal: 0 Books
Posts Scheduled
I’m only going to plan on writing one post, the Author Journey for next Monday. I’ll try to keep these going especially as it’s nice to have somewhere to vent and hopefully talk about some successes. So, just one.
Goal: 1 Post
Chapters Written
This is the one area that I really don’t want to let slide, especially as I haven’t done this one for two weeks now. So, I’m going to say one more book outline. Maybe, I’ll read more of the older stuff while I’m unable to sleep…
Goal: 1 Book Outline
Artwork Completed
I feel like I need to draw more often. I need to make it a part of my daily routine so I’m going to keep a sketchbook open on my desk at all times and just doodle. No big plans. I just want to have fun with it and see what happens.
Goal: Some Doodles

Final Thoughts
I’ve no idea how long the knee issues it going to impact things. I’m hoping that we’ll get it under control within a couple of weeks and then allow another couple of months before it heals up. I really don’t want to be in this much pain for another two weeks though. My gut is telling me that orthopaedic will leave it as is. There’s a slim chance they will want to perform surgery, but I don’t think the fracture is that significant.
I think the real test is when they look at my ligaments and tendons. Again, hopefully, it’s just a sprain and they can start things healing with an injection of cortisone. I should also be getting some better pain meds today so that should help too.
I’m just glad that I have this buffer to protect my site from stuff like this. Before now, all I’ve broken are my fingers and metatarsals. The kneecap is a new experience entirely. Have you broken any bones and what did you do to keep daily life moving forward? Anyhow, thanks for reading.

Dang! I hope there’s no significant damage, either to the bones or soft tissue. And good job building up a buffer! That gives you some mental space to focus on healing without worry. Or worry about posts, anyway!
I’ve broken an arm in the old days, and I partially tore a tendon in my left leg. I had to wear Das Boot for about six weeks, but the pain was manageable. I remember my arm hurting quite a bit more. There’s nothing quite like bone pain.
Sounds like you’re planning to rest, and that’ll help shorten your recovery cycle. Don’t be like my family! They wouldn’t rest, wouldn’t listen to the doctor, and had the audacity to act surprised when they experienced complications!
Yeah. Hopefully it’s not too bad. I don’t really want surgery or pins if I can help it. We’ll have to wait and see though.
Yeah, having a buffer gives me such peace of mind. Although I t doesn’t help my unquenchable need to keep doing stuff… It was nice to just sit at my desk and draw today despite the pain. It just doesn’t go away no matter how you position it.
The family are tying to not make me do too much, but they forget a lot. I’ll have to keep reminding them that speeding up the recovery process is going to be for the best.
The strangest thing is I’ve no idea how I did it!
