Author Journey (January 1, 2024)

2024 01 01 The Otaku Author Journey

Happy New Year! I’m excited to start the New Year off in the best way possible and that’s by forgetting the crap from last year and focusing on the positives. Let’s make this fun again!

Author Journey (January 1, 2024)

Favourite Moment!

To kick off each Author Journey post, I’m going to talk about my favourite moment from the week before. Well, for me it was Christmas Day. I’m not religious so it doesn’t have any special meaning to me but I was pleased to spend the day with my family and see them enjoying all the hard work we had put into making it a fun day. They were very excited by their presents. I refuse to let Santa take the credit for any of the good ones since… well… you know! On top of that, I got something rather awesome that I absolutely didn’t pick out myself… All right, I did. My family may know that I like anime and manga, but that’s about as far down the rabbit hole they go. This is what I got. Isn’t it beautiful!

Writing!

Since last week was the Christmas break, I have nothing to report pretty much anywhere. It’s been all family all the time and I’m a little exhausted. This coming week, I will be attempting to pick things up again, but the kids are still off school, so it may be slower than normal. I’m going to begin the rewrite of Valiant Lineage which will be getting a new title too. I’m excited to get it on.

Anime!

I actually only watched two episodes of anime last week which isn’t nearly as much as I’d like to. I have come up with my schedule going forward which I believe will give me the best of both worlds. I will cover three older shows and three currently airing shows. To begin with, I’m going to clean up some shows that I had to put on hold for one reason or another. These will occupy three of my morning slots.

Then, I’m going to cover three current shows and post them midday whenever I can. These will be a little more flexible. This way I can stay on top of current shows while working through my backlog and keeping the posts going out regularly. This is what I’ll be covering.

I’m excited for all of these so it should be easy to keep up with.

Manga!

This year, I am going to focus on reading my books. I’ve built up a pretty good collection and several of them are unread because of the focus I’ve given the books from the library. I will be looking to read three a week which has been pretty achievable to this point. And, these are all books that I really want to read since I bought them. I’m planning on having a great year.

Aspirations for the week!

So, I’ve brought back my weekly goals and my weekly Author Journey. It’s shorter than the previous ones and I’m sticking with the goals for the foreseeable future. If I smash them so be it. If I miss them, fine. I’m going to spend less effort trying to plan for the week ahead and put that energy into writing. I’m not going to be moaning about this and that. If something goes wrong, I might mention it in passing, but the goal of this post is positivity. I’m going to have a great year and this is how I shall make that happen. I’m watching what I love, reading what I love, and doing what I love. Everything else can take a backseat until it’s ready to join in.

Today is the beginning of the New Year, so I’m going to take that energy and run with it. Anything is possible. For too long, I’ve been fighting through things and that’s going to change. By focusing on positivity, I’m going to completely change my outlook and my productivity. Anyhow, I hope you had a great holiday season and I wish you a happy New Year. Thanks for reading.

  1. Claymore is SO awesome. That’s an awesome gift! I am also looking forward to Solo Leveling. It isn’t on my list to cover, so I am looking forward to your thoughts. Happy New Year!

    • I’ve actually already read the series a couple of years ago, but am excited to reread it now. The designs of the monsters alone was enough for me to want my own copies.

I’ve read the first volume of Solo Leveling and really enjoyed it so I’m pumped up for the anime.

Happy New Year to you, too!

  2. Cool Christmas gift! I’ve only seen the anime, but I really enjoyed it. If the monsters in the anime were anything like the ones in the manga, then they were terrifying!

“By focusing on positivity, I’m going to completely change my outlook and my productivity.”

That sounds like a solid goal! Being positive is tough, but I’ve seen it pay off big time. I hope it works well for you!

    • Thanks. It’s really cool. I’ve read the books and seen the anime and I can tell you, if you enjoyed the anime, you will love the books. I’m excited to reread the whole thing again.

The Awakened beings remind me of HR Giger’s art.

I’m trying to remain positive. I think it’ll be tough but worth it if I can do it. It’s too easy to let stuff get you down so having a focus on the good stuff might help.

  3. That boxed set looks ace! I have a couple volumes now, but I wish I had saved up for the set, instead 😀

    • Yeah. It’s really cool. Luckily, I was able to read the series at my library first so I could hold off until I could justify getting the boxed set. Worth the wait.

What did you think?
