Author Journey (June 24, 2024)
I’m continuing to prepare for my July break and got through a lot of work last week. Amazingly, I’ve almost scheduled all of my manga reviews! Now, I can get to work on some anime reviews… Always lots to do!
Author Journey (June 24, 2024)
Favourite Moment!
Don’t worry, I haven’t bought anything else off eBay this last week, but that’s fine. I’ve got something else that I really want to touch on. I needed to start a new manga series or continue one I’ve already begun so that I would have enough posts for July. On a whim, I picked a volume one from my bookshelf and flicked through the first couple of pages. Less than forty-eight hours later, I had read the first four volumes of Asumi-chan is Interested in Lesbian Brothels! Don’t let the title fool you, this is a fantastically sweet rom-com… and it is quite spicy as you might expect. Anyhow, I couldn’t put it down. My only gripe was when I finished volume four that there were no more volumes available. Chapters are being released online, but I’m waiting for the book and there isn’t even a preorder. And it ended on a massive cliffhanger too! Anyhow, check it out if that sounds like something you might enjoy. And, if you’re not sure, my reviews will be out in July.
Writing!
I had a little time while I was waiting for the kids to finish school, so I started to scan the documents in my Google Drive. There are a lot of them. Anyhow, I came across one that I made in 2019 that was a five-year plan with the end bullet point being “Become a full-time author”. That would have been this year… Anyhow, it’s important to note that the plan wasn’t necessarily wrong. I just failed to complete any of the steps leading up to the big finish. I need to rectify that.
Anime!
I finished watching Metallica Rouge which is the last show that I am planning on watching from Winter 2024. If I wasn’t about to go missing for a month, I would have dived straight into my Spring 2024 selections. I might get to them while I’m away, but there are no guarantees. So, in the meantime, I’ve decided to try to finish off some of the shows that I’ve put on hold over the years. It’s very rare for me to drop a show completely, but I have put several on hold. The first one that I’m revisiting is Azur Lane.
Catching up on my To-Watch List
Winter 2024
Spring 2024
- That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
- Mushoku Tensei II: Jobless Reincarnation
- KonoSuba: God’s blessing on this wonderful world!
Manga!
As I’ve already mentioned, I powered through all available volumes of Asumi-chan is Interested in Lesbian Brothels! and also picked up Goblin Slayer Side Story II: Dai Katana again. I read the first volume a while back while I was sampling a lot of different titles. It’s been nice getting back into that world, especially as I’m still a little disappointed with the second season of the anime.

Aspirations for the week!
So, according to my tracker, I have three more manga reviews to write up. Two of those are series reviews of Yuuna and Gleipnir, leaving just one more volume of Dai Katana to read and then I can put all my energy into my anime posts. And for those, I’ve got a couple more episodes of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation to do as they air and then I have a series that I’m going to be focused on for all of July, which will be the plan for my format going forward. It’ll be interesting to see how it works out.
One thing that has been annoying me of late is the availability of titles on streaming services. I’m a huge fan of streaming and as someone who was watching anime before YouTube existed, things are a lot better now than they ever were. However, I can’t get my head around shows that are not available. I’m seeing a similar thing with some of the creature feature movies I’m looking at. I made a list of great creature features that I wanted to rewatch and then checked for them online. Several are tucked away behind obscure services and some don’t seem to exist anymore… Luckily, I’ve been able to find some on eBay, but it just reinforces the fact that if you like a movie or show and think you’ll want to see it again sometime, you’ve got to own a physical copy.
So, I have less than two weeks until my break and still have lots to do. I’m getting there, but there’s no time for lollygagging. I’ve got to get on with it. Thanks for reading.
“but it just reinforces the fact that if you like a movie or show and think you’ll want to see it again sometime, you’ve got to own a physical copy.”
That’s hit me five or six times in the past week alone. It’s particularly frustrating if it’s a title from 5 or 10 years ago, it’s not available for sale, it’s not on eBay for resale, and it’s not even available through alternative channels!
That said, it looks like 14Tb external drives are the sweet spot right now. At least last week when I checked, they were about the same price as smaller drives and a lot less than 16Tb. Buying physical media can get expensive in more ways than one!
It makes no sense that this is even an issue, but it’s everywhere. Take Ikki Tousen for example where the different seasons are controlled by different distributors making it almost impossible to stream them.
I was looking for the movie 28 Days Later and it’s not on any streaming platform the world over. You can’t buy digital copies or new physical copies. All the DVDs and Blu-rays that are out there are all that’s left. Luckily, I found someone selling one on eBay, but that’s not always the case.
Even with some of the kids cartoons, we can only find partial seasons. In this day and age, these things should be available for anyone to buy. We are going to lose countless works of fiction because of this nonsense. That makes me really sad.
I back up everything I have and am in the market for a new external hard drive so I will have to look into those. I have three 2Tb drives at the moment.
